I have had my 2005 since it was new, but I'm intrigued by the new tow ratings and possibly towing "legal".

A few questions I have as this is the first time I have ventured into the 4g area.

What is "max tow"? is that a package or just the new 350/800 rating? Do you need to order it?

Are all the 2500 and 3500 350/800 or do some still have the lower power engines?

I saw on the "build your own" dodge site that dual trans coolers as a option?

I am actually interested in a 3500 sb cc with 4:10 gears. I keep seeing the 30K GCVWR number tossed around. I'm guessing thats for a 3500 dually.

thanks for your input in advance.

The Max tow package is only- 350/800, auto, 4. 10 and dually. It is a specific package that will give you a higher towing rating. I am pretty sure it is not available in a crew cab, short bed configuration. All the autos have the same engine/transmission package but it is the other things that give the truck it's ability to pull larger loads safer and more reliably.

The max tow has increased transmission cooling, beefed up rear diff, a finned diff cover and I am not sure but I think it might have different programming for the transmission. The max tow package has a lot of value for the cost of the option. I also like the 4:10 gears. I tow a 19000 lb. fiver with mine. It is nice to be "legal" plus the truck is a great tow unit. I like the crew cab long box set up. The longer wheel base is great for towing and ride quality. With this size of truck you are not going to fit in places made for sub compacts but with a little common sense the size is not a problem.

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to price trucks on line and it seems the lowest price for a slt in what I want is 45-48K,after they deduct from MSRP.

When do the 2013's start rolling out? Maybe that would be a better time to look?

When I bought my 3500 in 04', it was 38K with all the options I needed.

I guess Mexican labor prices have gone up. :)

I was told by the head Chrysler warranty rep at May Madness that my truck is exactly the same as the Max Tow except for the diff cover and the 4:10 gears. I have the diff cover but the wrong gears.

what is the particulars on the dual trans cooler set up? Is the rear axles actually different then the AAm 11. 5 or ?

The short box 4:10 I want is rated to tow 16300. Thats all I need. I should be going lighter in 5ths soon.

How/where is the second trans cooler mounted etc?

Thanks for your help in advance,.
