ok, bought a 1981 d250 crew cab short bed 2wd today. it is in decent shape body wise, but will need to be re-done. I also have a 93 d250 club cab 2wd that the body is rough on, but only has 135k on the running gear. So what the heck, I figured I will make 2 trucks into one, and have a 93 crew cab short bed. any suggestions? I plan on making it have the trim that a 93 has, and painting it red/silver 2 tone like the 93 as well. Oo.

I am about to do this myself with a 78 Crewcab short bed onto a 93 dually chassis. I hope you are planning a rebody as it seems much much easier at least in my case there is only 1/2" difference in the wheelbase. See pics here...

I take it that your dually was a cab and chassis when it started life. from what I have read up on, the short bed crew cabs and the long bed club cabs have the same wheel base, but the long bed club cab is 4 inches longer behind the rear axle, along with having body mounts in a different location. My tenatave plans are to remove the body off of the crew cab, and rehab it, and use all of the club cab running gear, wiring, interior, and suspension on the crew cab frame. it will be a long term project, and I have access to another 93 diesel parts truck for some suspension items, so the conversion can begin, without literally taking the club cab appart just yet. Both trucks have the similar GVW ratings, at 8550 and 8501 lbs. now it will just be a matter of timming this thing out. :-laf

No it is a normal chassis long bed ext cab, if there is extra material behind the axle we will just take it off. We have the capabilities to move body and bed mounts. We are pulling the dash out of the 93 along with all wiring needed and bolting it into the crew, we fell this is the least amount of work possible even having to move mounts... we are guessing only having to move the rear mounts for the cab and the bed mounts everything else seems to be the same, the crew even has a core support that is very similiar to the 93, the only major problem we are anticipating is the grille of the crew not working which is the one we really want to use.

this is going to be built for the wife, and since it is the same wheel base as the club, it is no big deal. had a long bed crew, and it was a LIMO, and the wife wanted nothing to do with it... lol. but seriously, this is going to be built for the wife.

the grille can work

you can use the grille, you will just have to spend some time getting the lights lined up.

More concerned with the intercooler and all the other coolers fitting behind it.

worst case, use the intercooled core support, and add back in the earily style grille onto it. it can be done. by the way, the earily style grilles are nowhere near as thick as the later style grilles, and it will bolt onto the earily style fenders just fine with some small mods
