JR, I lived in SJ del Cabo for four years in the early '80s, operating heavy equipment ruining/developing the coast between SJ and Los Cabos. If you golf the flat land I made hilly is now the Los Cobos golf course. Still have property in SJ. All I can say is it was very nice when I got there but changed rapidly. SJ is still much better than Los Cabos but isn't a sleepy town anymore, even has a Ford dealer! You won't find donkey shows in SJ but will find some of the best fishing in the world, guaranteed. Oct is an excellent month, heat of summer is over but the main tourist season doesn't start till Dec. You will have no problem getting a tan. Rent a car, convertible Bug preferred. One of my favorite places is to go a little north of the SJ airport, there is a dirt road that heads west up over the mountains to the Pacific side that is incredible, palm forests, creeks with waterfalls etc. The dirt coast road north from SJ to just short of La Paz is also a don't miss. If you want to get wild you will have to head down to Los Cabos, SJ has bars but is pretty tame, Cabo is mostly kids. Larry B has been back there more recently than I, maybe he'll pipe in. You'll have a great time
