Thanks to all that helped with my transmission trouble post. I figured out that the TSB 18-02-99 should correct my problem. So now I am going to go to the dealer and get this corrected under warranty. The problem is, I am scared! The dealer where I live is horrible, and is known for screwing stuff up in the past, and all I want them to do is perform the repair under the TSB, not screw around with my rig. Has anyone had any luck with going to the dealer and specifying what they want done without sounding like a know it all? I am trying to figure out how to go and say "do what TSB 18-02-99 says" in a better way. So I was just curious what you guys do when doing the dredded task of letting the dealership work on your rig.

I had a terrrible experience at Preston Dodge in Dallas, TX. The service manager was a real prick and would not perform the TSB for a "imtermittant stumble" on my truck. He started using profanity when I said I found the TSB on the internet.

He gave me some crap about how DC audits the dealership when they do these TSBs. Luckily, the truck did stumble in the dealership and they finally did the TSB. The truck was in for a lift pump and it took these bozos 4 days to figure it out.

I would NOT recommend Preston Dodge in Dallas, TX. The service

is lousy.

Your best bet is to find a good dealer based on recommendations.

A 5 star dealer doesn't mean they are any good. To me 5 stars = number of phone calls to DC to figure out the problem.

When we take a truck to the dealer, we always try to have the day off or part of it. . and stay with the truck. . watch what they do to the truck, and how they treat it. . If you can't stay, make sure you stop in at lunch or sometime during the day. . but you can't always be there. . IF you can find a good dealer, it helps... but that's next to impossible sometimes...

Charles... I have had good luck when the Dealer in Ennis, but it was also on a new truck, with a recall. . They fixed it while I waited. . and watched. .

We have had very bad luck with the dealer in Waco... we were in a few weeks ago for a recall on the 95... asked them to adjust the idle up a little... They told us that it was all computer controled, and they couldn't do that... We asked again. . "On a 95?" Same answer... We got out before they could touch the truck... We have had many problems with them. . (I'll get off my soap box now. . )

TractorNut,

I agree, but some dealers don't want you waiting and/or looking

at what they're doing. I guess they don't want you to look and see them scratching their heads because they don't know how to fix. I heard good things about McKinney Dodge, but have not

personally visited.

TSB's

About a year and half ago I had to take my truck in for the eng. stumple noted in some of the y2k trucks. I just told the dealer the problem and ask for the # TSB be performed on the truck. Of corse he had no clue of what I was talking about and said he would ask the tec. To make a long story short the TSB was perfomed and when I picked it up the Tec. came out to talk with me about it. It was the best I had ever been treated. So let them know that you know what your talking about.

Well, I took the dreaded trip to the dealer, and as scared as I was, everything went well. The first guy that took all my info and that I talked to was not very freindly or helpful, but in the afternoon I went back, and to my suprise the truck was done, it was fixed, they performed the TSB, and didn't charge me a dime since they said it was covered under some federal emissions recall. They were very pleasant and I didn't even have to do any paperowrk. So all's well that ends well. I guess I made a big deal out of nothing, but I was sure scared having someone else work on my baby!

FFSchooley-

It also doesn't hurt to keep track of the name of the tech you dealt with and liked. If you trust him, you can use him as an inside source for DC info. I had several problems with my company PowerJoke 4x4 and found a decent tech at the Phord dealer, he's been a good contact ever since (75k miles, 3 trannies, 4 torque converters... )
