Hi Guys, could use a little help from all you more traveled types. I am leaving on tuesday for Topeka, KS from Sacramento, CA. Will be going via Hwy 50 to Denver. Does anyone know where good places for diesel are along 50 going thru Nevada. I understand this to be a fairly desolate area. Not my choice though as I am towing with a friend who wants to go this route.

Thanks,

Jay

The only place that I have bought fuel was Ely,NV & it was higher than following I-80, also bought fuel in Salida,UT. It was also higher. Once in Denver there is a Flying J on the east side of Denver on I-70. With the higher prices of fuel I would try to convince your friend to go I-80 & use the Flying J's

Hope this helps you

Jack

I came back from Durango, CO on Hwy 50 on 7/24-7/26. I took I80 from Fernley, NV. The diesel prices are lower in UT and CO than CA and NV. Check current trends here:http://www.flyingj.com/fuel/diesel_CF.cfm.

Be sure to get fuel at Sparks or Fernley then Ely if you can't make Delta, UT. You don't want to buy in any of the small towns in the center of NV.

Here's my list:

Durango $2. 449

Delta 2. 469 (Phillips 66, north on a side road on east side of town)

Ely 2. 549

Fernley 2. 529 (Sparks Sierra Sids was a couple cents cheaper)

Alamo, CA 2. 599 (On Tuesday it was 3. 059, probably higher today)

I think Salina was a little higher than Delta. That was July... good luck with today's prices.

Fallon is on 50, stock up there. It should get you to Ely. If not, I think Austin has pumps, but probably $$$.

One thing about going US 50 through NV is that it is not nearly as boring as I80. Gotta watch out for cows in the road, especially on turns. It's not a good idea to speed at night because a black angus steer laying in the road is hard to see.

BUSTED, Guilty as charged. Thanks for support. Gonna go see how I do in A Stock. Scott McHugh is probably gonna kick my butt.

Fella's thanks for the help. Was planning to top off in Fernly cuz as I suspected it's no man's land until Ely. I will most likely carry extra fuel to guard against potential shortages in some of the outlying areas.

We have two trucks and trailers going and plan to drive during the day. I will let my friend lead with with gasser chevy since he's the one that wants to take this route. I will be doing my best nascar draft behind him. :-laf

When I get to Topeka I will try to get online and post what fuel prices I encountered so others may know what to expect :--)

I'm running a 10AE Miata in CSP. Can't leave until Wednesday evening and my co-driver wants the car in Topeka Friday morning to have Vic dyno/tune it so I'll be driving pretty much straight thru.

Getting diesel in and around Topeka is not as easy as used to be. The big truck stop is now a On The Border. Diesel around here is 2. 74 to 2. 95 right now.
