So what's a good set of front brake pads for the 3rd gen. I'm ready to change mine for the first time. (04, 2500, 4wd towing a 34 foot camper. )

Autozone lists duralast semi metallic

advance auto parts lists Bendix Semi metallic in stock and raybestos is special order.

Or should I just go get a set of oem pads. I've been relatively happy with them, I have 45k on them.

I'm sure by now some folks have been through a few sets on third gens.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Nick

I like to buy parts from the dealer. They are as good as you will find anywhere. I get a 15% discount and I do the work myself, unless it's an engine or a transmission rebuilt.

I just got back from the 5star for a front hub/wheel bearing replacement at 70,000 miles. While the rotor was off I decided to save some labor and replace the pads. They were $58 which was OK since everything was apart. The hub was $360, so the pads seemed insignificant.

Boy, will I be glad when my shop is finished. Going almost a year without a garage is killing me.

dont buy the advance pads unless you need some good deer whistles!!! I have tried three sets on the front of my 03 and they all squeak! What about the hawk's from geno's?

The Autozone duralasts work fine but make quite a bit of dust. Ill go mopar pads next time. I just realized this is my fist post too, lol.

Welcome aboard Sgt Craig. I agree with you that Mopar are a better way to go. I have used Autozone and can only get 10K miles out of them.

I have 2 suggestions... .

Get an exhaust brake if your driving a stick... and consider the Performance Friction brand of brake pads...

My 04 now has 150k miles with the stock pads... pulls 16-18K lb trailer 95% of the time... never been through a full tank of fuel empty... . We upgraded to the PXRB, by PacBrake when they came out... .

We have a lot of school bus fleets using the Performance Friction product and they pay more for that product than other brands. . but they like the fact that they don't fade much and last the entire school year with untrained drivers... the other pad's they've used, have needed pad changes mid school year... .

The performance Friction pads aren't bad on rotors... . My 00 Ford F550 now has 350K miles and is on the third set of pads... . 1 factory and 2 brake jobs... still on the factory rotors..... Same with a 93 with over 500K.....

We haven't had a customer complain about rotor life with the Performance Friction product...

An other option.

I have accumulators on my 04 3500 dually. I expect to get atleast 100,000 mi out of my factory brakes.

Ditto.

I thought I was doing pretty good. I just put new rears in mine last night... 95,860 miles on factory issue. Went back to DC for the new ones. Fronts will be swapped out regardless of condition as soon as dealer gets some in. I figure almost 100K is good enough. Gotta burn up that credit balance at the dealer somehow. :D

These dealers on the left coast won't give you a discount unless you are a grease monkey. SUCKS

I've been making some calls looking for F&R pads to replace on my 05 3500 SRW.

Two 5* dealers quoted me $127. 26 on the fronts and $99 rears for OEM

Napa was +- $100 an axel on the extreme duty

Autozone / Discount... around $60 an axel

Hawk not available at all

EGR Performance Brakes $170. 95 per axel

So my question is are these prices in-line with what you are paying/paid and what is the best choice
