Sorry things haven't held up to expectations. Yah, we all have had our shares of problems. Whether it be gas or diesel, something is always bound to happen. It's your choice to get rid of a diesel and go to a gas. Just be prepared that things may or may not be any better. I come from a family of gassers. I am the first to venture off into the world of diesels. You know what, I will never go back to gas. There is just something inherently addicting to owning/driving a diesel turboed engine. My philosophy is "you don't cut the head off b/c of a headache. . you treat it". Good luck man, God bless:)

Dodge Diesels

Sorry to hear about your truck there Cobra - but it doesn't sound too bad. I went from a 97 Toyota Tacoma 4wd to a 2002 Ram2500 diesel. I checked out other makes - but decided that the Dodge was the best truck to buy. Its a lot different driving a diesel - but I enjoy the truck - it hasn't given me any troubles so far (3500 miles) -its gets the same gas mileage as my old 4 cyl Toyota and I can haul just about anything with it - not something I could do with that Toyota. .

I think Dodge trucks are the way to go and I wouldn't own anthing else. So hang in there - life will get better. .

A friend bought a Dodge truck last year ( gas powered) and couldn't handle the 8 mpg - traded it for a diesel and won't go back. .

:D

[/QUOTE] Guys,

This really is a GREAT forum. I never really expected so many replies to a grumppy type post.

I have to tell you guys, I guess I was just in one of those moods and had to vent. Now that thats over, I love my truck. Always have, I just get down sometimes.

I really have to keep it for two more years anyway and I'm sure I'll have it for a long time past that.

I LOVE MY CUMMINS

Bill Kute

Now thats the spirit Bill. I have ridden Harleys for most of my life, including a 1950 hardtail. I remember when the Japanese just couldn't figure out why they could design and build a much better motorcycle but we just wouldn't buy them! They couldn't comprehend "class" and "character"!

Cobra,

Jack it up about 4-5 inches, add some stacks, toss in a 3k spring kit and some 370's and the other problems will be like a speck on a gnats butt. No matter what breaks you still look forward to firing it up and smokin' it. :D :D :D

Cobra, I rode a Gold Wing for a few years because it was so much smoother , better technology, better handling and braking, the list goes on. Now all I have is my old Harley. I got to really appreciating the simplicity, bottom end torque, noise, heaviness. I have a Toyota Tundra for my wife. It's got to be absolutely the best half ton truck on the road. I highly recommend it if you give up on diesels. But I usually drive my Dodge because I've come to appreciate its simplicity, bottom end torque, noise, heaviness... ...

I just got done reading this whole thread, and it just makes me ROFLMAO!!

Some of you guys got to be joking, I've had some problems with my truck, the track bar and misc. steering components, both window regulators, power lock switches, headlight switch, fog lights, the silly sunglass holder(twice and need another one),lift pump, and the latest,a headgasket, and I'm sure I forgot some items.

Big deal, like some other member said,"humans are'nt perfect".

This is'nt the only truck I had problems with, and won't be the last one. The thing is I USE my truck, everyday,it's my grocery getter,my work truck,my huntin',fishin',campin',haulin',pullin',racin',and general playing around truck! Not to mention my only vehical.

The point is,none of my other trucks would never let me get away with what this truck does everyday!

It's never left me stranded, and can carry anything I can fit in it, and still get respectable MPG.

I have done some mods to this truck where I have hacked up the frame, onacounta' the dump bed,cut holes in my bed, onacounta' the stacks, and this truck still begs fer more, it still drives down the road straight as an arrow and doesn't rattle at all goin' down the bumpy dirt roads.

Sure i've had some problems, but I wouldn't trade this truck for ANYTHING!! I LOVE MY TRUCK!!!

You guys have to remember, you drive these trucks down all kinds of rough roads, at all kinds of speeds, haul obsene amounts of weight, and generally beat these trucks, and you gripe about a few $$ worth of problems, gimmie a break.

I've had this truck fer 19 months, put 58,000 miles on it, and for the problems i've had with it, it's been a blessing after what i've put it through!!Yea, I think these are the best trucks around,we have the best engine, hands down, we have the biggest axles, and we are able to put large tires on a stock truck without an expensive lift, which in itself is worth it to me, I didn't want a little tiny truck, there's enough of them around.

I mean really guys, if your house was peeling paint and had squeaky doors, would you sell yer house?!!! And never buy another one made out of wood?!!

Good day,

You have a point.......

... ... but, my house's paint job didn't cost over $30k, either! For the amount of money we pay for these trucks, we shouldn't have to worry about stupid s--- such as lift pumps, steering shafts, brake pulls, and warped rotors. Yes, I like many things about my truck, but certainly not all of them. I've been luckier than most, but still have had my paint ruined by a dealer, replaced the steering shaft at 18,000 miles (and a year later its bad again), the rotors have been warped since about 15,000 (not bad but getting worse), and have had bad gaskets that sprayed coolant all over the engine compartment (and the dealer said this was normal). My two neighbors Rams aren't any better than mine, either.

That said, it does what I need it to do, and that's great. But I have a right to expect less trouble out of a virtually new $30k truck.

JMHO... ...

and neither did your trucks paint job.

The point is, typicly(sp?) the problems are minor things that don't leave you stranded.

Some unlucky people have bigger problems, and thats a shame, but if they (DC) built their trucks to military specs, and they lasted 20 years without problems, how many trucks would you buy? Right, 1, therefore they'ed be out of business.

I understand that we think some of the problems are "stupid" and some of the engineers should be forced to repair our trucks on site,(because things on paper aren't like they figured, in reality) ,but it doesn't matter what brand you buy, your still going to have some problems, thats a fact.

At least on our trucks we can see the darn engine, and most of the replaceable parts aren't that difficult to change. Also, unlike the PHERD's,we don't have to remove the upper radiator hose when changing the belt, and vice versa, you want to talk about stupid! Thats the dumbest thing I have ever seen!

Yea, you have the right to expect less problems, but it looks like all your problems were coverd under warrenty, were they?

The bottom line is, if everyone was perfect, and did they're job perfect, you'd only buy one truck your entire life ,mechanics would be out of work, this site would not exsist, and we would all be bored. :) ;)

My truck was built on a Friday,so I'll blame my problems on that alone, execpt the problems I had "onacounta BOMBING,makes me feel better anyway. :D

Of course, this is just my . 02, not everyone would agree, 'cause if everyone had the same opinion, again, we'ed all be bored. :) ;) ;)

Oh Yeah I still Have It

HEMIDART,

Yes I still do have the truck. No more problems but not many more miles either. I do enjoy the truck and in all prbability I will have it for a good long time.

See you guys at Muncie and we'll compare notes.

Happy trails to ya

Bill :D :D :D
