i said in an earlier reply that i was involved in a situation with

Central 4 Wheel Drive in Sacramento. here's the story...

a couple of weeks ago, i online ordered a smittybilt outland sport bar and PIAA 60XT lights. next day, got an email that entire order

was shipped. tracked the order for a week and much to my surprise (thank you big brown truck) it was delivered on time for a change. only had the bars  checked the packing slip and someone had handwritten in on my copy that the lights were

backordered and would ship in a few days. i said, "what the

H#$%". called them and talked to someone who said he would call PIAA and see what he could find out.

to make a long story even longer, i emailed Jim, their customer

service head. explained the situation and asked some pointed questions, like "i've already paid shipping, are you gonna charge me again?", "why wasn't i informed of the backorder sooner?, etc.

in less than TWO hours jim called me. apologized profusely

for letting me slip thru the cracks on notifying me on the backorder. explained that PIAA hadn't shipped when they were

supposed to (by about a week), but they would have the lights in two days. also informed me that he would ship the lights FedEx

2nd day air at his expense. got the lights in two days as advertised.

with all the posting about customer service going on (bad AND

good), i have to give credit where it's due. won't hesitate to do business with them again and recommend them to all of you:

my TDR family. :D  :D  :D  :D

super service

I encountered some really good customer service a few years ago when I had the '93 Ram.

We were 150 miles from home , at Eugene Oregon, when the differential started making a real grinding noise. I took the truck to a shop that was recommended and they did a diff. rebuild. About 10 days later and back home, a noise started again.

I telephoned the shop in Eugene, told the owner about the noise. He asked, can I call you back in about 30 Min. I

In less than thirty min. , he called back. He asked can I have a car hauler pick your truck up this evening about 10 PM?. We will have it fixed by the end of the day tomorrow.

I, of course, agreed and was so impressed by how far he was willing to go (hauling my truck 150 miles to his shop), I offerred to pick the truck up there when it was done.

When I got there to get the truck, He said my man screwed up and did not torque the(can't recall the name of the nut) and it worked loose. He went on to apologize for the trouble.

Sorry I can't recall the name and I no longer have the invoice, but it was north of West 11th out near Belt Line.

Vaughn, the nut he was probably referring to was the pinion gear nut. If this nut is not properly shimmed (collapsible shim or hard shim or shims) between the inner and outer pinion bearings you will have problems. Most mechanics go by pinion nut torque (ok with a hard shim or shims assuming the correct shim or shims is/are used) but not ok with a collapsible shim. A specified bearing drag must be adhered to in order to maintain any kind of gear/bearing longevity.

John;

Thats it Pinion, don't know why I couldn't come up with it before. I was impressed both that without hesitation, he sent a truck 150 miles to get mine and then no excuses, no avoiding, just we messed up.
