i need to have a pyrometer installed on the cummins but am way to busy to do it myself anyone trust a mechanic here in so cal. specifically ventura county or the "valley". also genos is selling the combo egt and boost gauge. the choice is for a(1/8 NPT Therm) or (1/4 NPT Therm). whats the diffrence? (other than an 1/8 of an inch)

thanks

greg

I just finished installing a white faced Westach combo guage in a pillar mount with the grab handle. It matches perfect during the day but not so great at night. Anyway the difference between the two, 1/8 vs 1/4 is the size of the probe and fitting that goes into the exhaust manifold. I used the 1/8 and it works fine. Good luck. Jim

jim do you think the nightime issue is beacuse of the brightness (or lack theroff) your gauge light? or should i get the black face?

greg

i have the black face on. heard the white was too bright...

you can move the bulb in and out of the housing to control the brightness. my black one need to be adjusted. i installed it too deep in the housing after hearing the "too bright" crowd

the black looks very sleek. passangers ask about it. it caught the attention of the service rep at the dealership. i like it. being up on the pillar it seperates itself nicely

Greg-

I went with 1/8 NPT on mine. The reason was because Murphy's Law follows me wherever I go. I figured that there was the very, very small chance that I could mess up the 1/8 install then I could just go to the next size up and use an adapter bushing. If I started with 1/4 and messed up, then the new hole would be that much bigger (and noticeable). Turned out the install was very straight-forward.

I installed the white faced Westach combo gauge on a SRT pillar. At night the face is still white, but it didn't bother me since it was off to the side away from the main dash gauges.

However, this week I just installed a Dipricol fuel pressure gauge on a steering pod, and it now makes the Westach stick out like a sore thumb, but only at night because the Dipricol changes from day-to-night pretty close to exactly like the dash.

If I would have bought the black Westach, then it would have now stuck out like a sore thumb (probably to me only) in the daytime only.

Maybe there's a local TDR club near you where you can meet up and get help?

Hope this helps!
