I am considering installing the 3K GSK for a couple of reasons.

I think it would help me while pulling a load to be able to run the RPMs up to the 2600-2800 level. By doing this, when I shift into the next gear I will be in a better RPM range for pulling (1700-1900), instaed of 1500.

This should help in two ways:

1 Less lugging of the motor

2 Higher transmission line pressures(Help maintain TC Lockup Clutch)

Currently while pulling a grade with a load(Total weight 18K) I have good power, but if I get slowed down and have to go down to 2nd gear, I have a hard time getting back up into third. This is because in 2nd gear I am pulling 40MPH @2400 RPM and am maxed out on RPMs. When I shift up into third I am @ 1500 RPMs which is too low. Right??

1 What are the drawbacks?

2 How long does it take to get it set right? (Smokewise)

3 Is this a safe way to correct my problem?

DSutton, you're right on all points. I pull 20k or so fairly often and being able to turn things up to 3K or so really helps when you go to the next gear.

Big help getting on the freeways pulling up those on-ramps.

It's been a while, but I remember spending a couple of hours with my installation. I fiddled with the plate at the same time so I went in through the top, no big deal. I may have gotten lucky but everything went well with no tuning needed.

I did have a couple of pages of info gleamed from this site that helped a lot.

Do, and good luck.
