I'm on my second Onki stainless tip in about 14 months. The first time Geno's replaced it under their warranty (in March or so) and basicly said I was on my own for the second tip. Well now it's starting to rust as well. I see Geno's doesn't even carry them now. So what other brand (for a reasonable cost) is holding up well?

Other than some road tar I'm having a hard time removing, as it is baked on, my MBRP stainless tip is holding up well, has to be 4 or 5 years old.

It can't be a stainless tip, as stainless won't rust. It must be a steel tip that has been chrome plated. Be sure to buy a stainless tip, and the problem will go away.

My Magnaflow tip turns black... ... ... :D:D Can't blame that on the finish, though.

No rust issues so far at one year old.

Mike. :)

Got my 6" x 24" tip from sourceautomotive (Rip Rook). They even plasma cut it to perfectly fit over a 5" pipe. I welded it on. Been many years. . about 5 or so and no rust. It's 304SS.

When I ordered the onki tip it was listed as stainless. The second one started to rust and it hasn't even seen a New Jersey winter yet. The rust is starting on the front portion I guess from road spray thats getting under the mud flaps. My old truck had the banks monster cat back exhaust. While the pipes started to get a bit rusty the tip never did after five 4. 5 years of use. I think it might be the heat and the single wall thats causes these tips to rust... I ordered the MBRP stainless tip from Geno's. Thank you for your input.

I used a $79 mopar tip on my last truck--stayed looking nice and rust free for three years. I think that one was just chome plated steel. Along with the rest of the truck, it was cleaned once a week.

As previously mentioned, there are many different grades of "stainless". It has to be 300 series (usually 304 with tips and exhaust systems). 409 SS will pit and rust, and at a minimum turn brown.

I have an MBRP tip that came with the exhaust kit I purchased, and have no issues to date. Only had it on since late June of 2012 though. We will see what the first Michigan winter does to it. It is 304, so I should be OK.

Got my new MBRP tip today. It is double walled so that should help with the heat. The onki tip is single walled and is all discolored inside already from the heat. Guess it's not oven proofed... .
