Many of you know that I've been battling shoulder problems for a few months. I was told a week and a half ago that there was a remote chance that I had cancer and they sent me out for an MRI. The good news is that I don't have cancer, but I do have a pretty torn up shoulder. I'm going in for surgery next tuesday to repair a bone spur, torn rotator cuff, damaged cartilage, remove a cyst, damaged membrane around the shoulder, and a couple of other things. The bad news is that I won't be able to make it to Scheids because I need to baby my shoulder as much as possible to keep swelling down so that I have the best outcome from the surgery as possible. So for anyone that was planning on staying in my hotel :) , I'm sorry but you'll have to make alternate plans.

Steve,

So glad to hear it's not cancer. I am not going to school this semester because both of my grandparents are battling cancer and they need me to drive them to the hospital. Good luck with your surgery, just glad that this didn't happen at Munice. ;)

Best of Luck,

Andrew

Steve- I'm with ya man:( . Had surgery about 11 years ago to repair torn cuff, muscle & cartilige damage. Dislocated my shoulder one too many times. It's along painful road (sorry), but hopefully things will improve. I have ne problems or pain now!:D

Steve

Glad to hear it's not cancer , but it sounds as if you will be run thru the mill , when you say a few other things does that mean they are going to get your roids while they are in there:confused: ;) :p Just trying to cheer you up ... ... ... ... ... ..... God Bless :)

Hey Steve

Best wishes to you for a quick, complete, and uneventful recovery.

Take good care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.

Don

WHEW!!! Sounds like you've been swimming in circles for a while. You're going to get over this, and when it's all over, you'll be much relieved. Have fun... and take all the TLC offered. After all my knee work, I kinda liked having girls hold the door open for me, etc. Keep us up on how you're doing.

Greg

Wholly Cow! Steve man I hope all goes EXTREMLEY well for ya. Look pull thru this and I would call it a Full pull for you! Yeah when the Doc (Ahem) Doctor , Phd , Practitioner you know one who chooses to wear the white coat :p tells you the "C" word you sink mentaly ... . and fast I know.

Glad to hear it's not Cancer. My wife had that type of surgery when we lived in Atlanta. The Surgeon for the Atlanta Braves did the Surgery. I was disappointed, she still can't throw a ball like one of the Braves :D Hope you have a good outcome. By the way how are you going to drive that 5 speed with a torn-up shoulder?

Some more bad news... . Sorry to inform you that your looking at at least 6 months before the bad boy will feel good after the "recovery"... . I have a devise in the garage that is a small Igloo that you put ice water in that has a recirculating pump that pumps the water thru plastic pipes and to a pad that you put on the shoulder and it HELPS a bunch on the pain and swelling. . ask the DR. about one for you... . [if he doesn't give you one let me know I'll send mine over to you to help out... IT REALLY HELPS . . also helps by killing the pain so not so many meds. are needed... [they made me gooffy anyway]

Steve, just a heads up, the Physical therapy is just as important as the surgery. My wife did not do the therapy as aggressively as she should with the first shoulder operation and they had to do it again a couple of years later, since it never felt right and her range of motion was not what it should be. Do you PT to the max!!!

Good luck on your surgery. Some times you got to go through a little rougher times to get to the better(I know been there done that, not with the shoulder)You will come out of it. Nobody wants to hear that C word. It will be just a little set back.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys.

Pit Bull - I'm a masochist when it comes to physical therapy. I beat the tar out of my body when I was younger (motorcycle road racing, 110% snowboarding, etc) and have been down this road a few times - my physical therapists usually think I'm nuts because I beg them to give me more to do, push me harder, etc. I'm not one of the majority that I've seen at therapy that slow down when the therapist turns his/her back - I'm sweating from the moment I get there until I leave and ask for home exercises every time.

Willyslover - I'm going to see him tomorrow for my pre-op appointment and I'll ask him about that for sure. I'm sure he'll already have it planned (I've been told by everyone I've talked to that he is the #1 ortho in the Lansing area and he does shoulders exclusively). If not I'll definately take you up on your offer because ice is about the only thing that helps with the pain right now - I have 3 ice packs that I rotate through right now.

Shovelhead - With the drugs I'll be on I'm sure that will be out of the question, but I hear ya!! At the BMD open house I tossed a few back while taking a few meds and I don't remember a large part of saturday night - kinda scared me.
