Good News

Carter has released the OE lift pump for the 1998. 5-2002. It is now for sale in the after market so you won't have to go to Dodge or Cummins to get this any moor!!!!!Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

PRICE FOR CARTER PUMP

Jason we just released the pump this week and I am waiting for a phone call from corporate today, when I find out I will pass it on.

AB,

Sounds great! Where will we be able to buy this thing. Will we go through someone like Summit Racing or can we buy it direct from carter?

CARTER PUMP

Sorry guys the part number will be a P74213 and you will be able to get it from your loco auto parts store (that handle's the carter line) like NAPA, PEP BOYS, ext. I am still waiting for a price.

Re: CARTER PUMP

Did they change the design any?

I don't think the Rev has changed in the last year has it?

Carter pump change

Well TwoPro let me get a hold of engineering first thin in the morning and find out what or if any changes have been made to the pump!!!

Warranty

Some of these auto parts stores have ''lifetime warranties'' on things like fuel pumps. then the dealers will go

Bought a fuel pump pigtail at freightliner for 7. 76 Told dealer parts guy about it and he said his price from Dodge was 21. 50. He also stated that DC watches their computer and will not pay warranty shop labor unless part is bought from DC.

I do not think of him as $tealer anymore-- do'nt ask me what I think of DC. BTW this guy offered me a free pigtail [from bad pump] but three takeoff pumps had just hit the dumpster. I told him to please save me a bad one as I wanted to do an autopsy.

CARTER PUMP CHANGES

Hey TroPro I have spoken to engineering this morning and they have told me that their has not been any changes in the pump since 1/01/2002. So the pump we have released is the most current design. As far as price- it will depend on what part store chain you by from (bigger the chain the bigger the discount Fed Mog will give them) it looks like the price will be in the 160. 00$ range.

Wonder if we can get them here? That would be nice! I hope Autozone carries them! They are close and usually much cheaper than the local Napa. Photo is a nice rig I saw with stacks and a roof carrier rack the other day. No idea who owns it.

Gary is that a camper hooked to that 2500? :D Just kiddin!

$160 seems steep.........

Cummins sells them for $150 now. I know I got my Carter pusher (4070) at Napa for $90 at it's a very similar pump. It's low pressure/high volume though.

At the rate these should sell the distributors should be able to get volume discounts

Sounds like a perfect item for Gino's to carry.

Re: $160 seems steep.........

Well first off you are comparing the p4070 rotary vane (the cheapest universal pump in the bunch) to the updated OE pump and like I stated before the more pumps a company buys in a year the larger the discount will be!!!!!. Can Cummins sell them cheaper? darn right they can, they get them by the box car fulls.

What updates has the OEM pump received since it was placed in service on the Cummins ISB? How are they different than other Carters you can buy from Summit Racing (ignoring the M12x1. 5 threaded ports)? My new one (from Cummins) looked the same as the old one except for the wiring connection.

That figures - took delivery of my truck on 8/15/2001. :( Still on original lift pump, so far... ... .

Ncostello, from what input I have received from engineering the big change is the pressure relief valve and a better quality of materiel in the amateur bushings.

I just installed my 3rd lift pump. My 2nd went south when it went from 15 psi idle to 5 psi.

Why is it that Dodge\Cummins doesn't address this problem?

Better question would be why dosen't Carter address this problem?

ABrameloah, it is apperient even the latest version of the pump is still failing in the Dodge application. What is Engineering's response to this? Myself and thousands of other TDR members would be interested to hear Carter's response to the seemingly high incidence of lift pump failures and what steps are being taking to resolve this issue.

I would like to hook up a temporary fuel pressure gauge on my 2001.

Has anyone done this... and if so what is the procedure... ??

Also... . what changes have taken place with the lift pump since the introduction of the first ISB's?

Touch wood... truck is running just fine... .
