Bad news is I set a code..... PLEASE READ and help

OK, I just installed my DTT VB and EDGE Comp w/BlueChip cover. Cool setup and can't wait to get my TC. This thing has really come alive!

Now the problem, while test driving the truck trying to be civil, I had to try the WOT thing. WOWWWW! When I backed off I noticed the MIL was on. I have not altered the waste gate yet and I hit 22-23 psi boost.

Do you think I set an overboost code and does this indicate a problem with my comp box?

How do you display the codes without a scan tool?

I plan on buying a scanner. Has anyone tried the NAPA tool?

Thanks

Tom

Tom, one thing with the Blue Chip cover and the comp. Did you use an actual ground for the COMP? If not, you should.

Codes, turn the key on and off three times, codes will appear on the odometer.

engine ground

Batman,

I read the other thread about the cover and I used the grid heater ground like edge said.

Thanks for the info and I will try to get my code

P1693

If memory serves me, this is where I have to call Bill K. and install the resister.

But then again my memory (like other things) ain't what it used to be.

Btw, 1693 in my book just says its a companion code, nothing specific

Tom

That's usually the code for overboost or a problem with the maps sensor like low voltage. I've set it about 60 times so far. The box seems to clip the voltage from the map sensor when letting off the throttle. Only happens on my truck when driveing above 5000' elevation(I live at 7800'). It does seem to happen less with the comp than the EZ. I know of 3 other trucks in town with EZ boxes and the same problem. I hope those guys at edge come up with a fix for it.

TK , call bill and get the voltage regulator instead of the resistor . though if you need the resistor the truck will be starting off in second gear , which won't set a code .

i'll second it , 1693 is usually comes up for overboost .

resister

I re-read the instructions from Bill K. , and the resister IS for 2nd or 3rd gear starts which I do not have.

What is the solution for the boost module with the comp? I thought its purpose was to prevent the code.

Thanks for your help

Tom

P. S. Truck runs Great!

something isn't right then in boost fooling land ?

is the truck running fine ? try reseating the connections for the boost module .

i'll assume youve done nothing to block the wastegate with that low a boost reading ... oh what level did you have the comp set on ?

is you comp for the correct year truck ?

I have not blocked the wastegate yet. went from 18 without the comp to 23 with the comp on level 5-5

The truck runs strong and smooth. BTW, I am not getting any smoke even on 5-5. I thought some have said it would puff pretty good of the line.

I ordered the comp from Bill K at the same time as the VB so it should be the right year.
