For what it’s worth, many of the post we read are as a result of an issue or problem someone is having with their Ram CTD. For those that are interested I wanted to share with you that I traded in my 2006 CTD 3500 with 80K miles on it for a 2010 3500 about three months ago. My 06 was a great rig, not one time did I have to take it to the shop except for routine scheduled maintenance. I have 2200 miles on my 10 and have not had a single issue, I’m getting about 14-15 mpg and it is a dream to drive. :)

Thats about the MPG I'm getting with mine. 13-14 city and 15-16 hwy. You are right this trucks are more like a fine car than a truck when itcomes to the ride.

I'll agree the MPG is crap. I have a 1996 5. 9 that gets 22. 5 running 75MPH and my new 2010 gets about 15MPG. I will say it pulls like a beast.

The other thing we need to look at is how much more HP that the newer trucks have compare to the older stuff more ponies more fuel.

Your increased fuel is for the dpf and smog crap. My 12 valve has all kinds of power and gets good mileage.

Don't you think it's both? I think the emissions is a bigger part of it but adding a liter to a 6 cyl engine and pumping out 350 hp and 650 ft/lbs of tq is also going to impact it.

This 6. 7 with all the emissions stuff is REALLY clean. I still don't have a bit of soot at the end of my tailpipe. I know everyone's into mods, deletes and performance, but this really is an engineering marvel -- especially when you consider it's self-contained -- no urea fluids, etc...

All this power and clean exhaust -- I guess I'll have to get used to the fuel consumption.

Yes you are correct about the dpf and smog it does add to the reduce mpg but at the same time trying to compare your 12v to the 6. 7 is not apples to apples. With 12k on my truck now there is no soot build up on the tail pipe.

The 4th gen trucks are much better truck over all compare to the 1 gen through the 3rd gen from ride to fit and finish. This statement is based on pure stock trucks from each model year.

I agree with you on the reference to ride quality and noise etc. My point was power and fuel economy. Cummins engineers have stated they had increased engine size to keep the power where it needed to be once the smog equipment was in place.

Ummm... I'm over 90% cleaner and I make 350 hp and 650 ft/lbs of torque.

I should do that AND match your fuel economy? Everything is at a cost. I can breathe my exhaust and still beat you in a race.

Very true. But keep in mind that your 6. 7 is 90% cleaner than something that was already 90% clean.

PM levels have been the same from Jan 1, 1994 until Dec. 31, 2006. NOX levels stepped down in 1998, 2004 (the "600" engine), 2007, and 2010. PM levels have been reduced by a factor of ten in 2007. Sounds impressive until you discover the engine was pretty clean to start with. As an aside, the emission controls are performing far better than the EPA requirements.

Too funny... "breathe my exhaust". Yes everything is at a cost, and my costs are low and the truck is paid for. Again, we're getting out on a tangent, my original post was referring to the fuel mileage. As for beating me in a race, I don't race the truck that tows the drag car.

Matt. as for towing mileage my buddy with an 07 (j-35 already done) just got 10 mpg towing his heavy 3 axle toybox @ 70+mph.

Would you all agree there are not enough miles on these 6. 7's yet for good idea of what they will atain for milage. My 06 was horible (14-15mpg) till about 35K and improved all the way up to about 60K (20mpg). The 5. 9's needed a lot of time to "loosen" up. Shouldn't we expect the same from the 6. 7's?

The 6. 7's should be the same way. The best fuel mileage cannot be obtained until the rings are properly seated. How long the process takes will vary depending on the duty cycle the engine sees. 5. 9 or 6. 7 shouldn't matter. The process will remain the same.
