I have some good news, I am getting my truck finally. It will either be a 91 or a 94. Both are regular cabs and 4x4. Can any of ya'll give me some tips on driving a standard. I am a true rammer now. What is the first upgrade I should do? I will probably get the 94 if I have any say in it. I thought about the exhaust?

The 5 speed manual trans in these Cummins trucks is not much different than any other manual transmission. There are a few tips I can give that I have noticed.
1. Starting off in 2nd gear is easy unless pulling a load.

2. I shift around 2000 rpms to the next gear when empty. When I was running a stock truck, I would go to @2300 to 2500 rpm's. The power available in a stock truck was a little low and especially when going from 3rd to 4th gears. 4th gear seemed a little high and caused quite a drop in power.

3. Try to keep the rpm's up when you shift to the next gear. These high compression engines make shifting to the next gear a little clanky if you hit it at considerably lower rpm's. The older the truck, the more slop, the more clank in the drive line.

Hope this helps and enjoy the truck!

John
