Hey all,

I just pulled the trigger on the Audiovox PNP2 Sirius satellite radio receiver and was wondering if anyone has come up with a good place and way to mount this thing. I definitely don't want it sitting on top of the dash. The mounting bracket that came with the mobile docking station doesn't seem to be very versatile. I'm thinking that one of the Brolin CB mounts might work pretty well.

Do you guys have any other ideas? Thanks!

SIRIUS radio

I have the JVC unit, and I ended up putting it on the passager side on the dash. It's a pretty big thing, and I will eventually go with new head unit instead. The unit is just about impossible to read during the day, but not too bad at night. I tried all sorts of spots, but nothing seemed to work to well for me. Your unit is a lot smaller then what mine is, so maybe you'll find a better place. If I could do it all over again, I would put the head unit in. Does your unit work on a fm modulator, or is it a direct line to the radio? I have found that the sound quality of my FM modulator (not a very good one IMHO) is poor, but I love Sirius so I deal with it.

An nice way to route your antenna (if you haven't done it yet) is through the rear tail light, then through the head liner inside. Just make sure you seal the tail light back up pretty good or else you'll end up getting some mosture in there - I use just a tad of silicone and works pretty well.

I also have the JVC unit. There just isn't any decent place to put these things! They are kinda bulky.

I cut a piece of 16 gauge steel a little bigger than the suction cup on the universal mount and formed it to conform to the dash down low under the cubby above my shifter (I have a 5 speed). I painted it the dash color and fastened it using 3M double-sided foam tape for automotive trim. The suction cup will stick to the metal like glass. So the unit partially covers right side of the cubby but does not interfere with the gear shift and I can see the display.

I ran the antenna cable into the headliner and out from under one of my running lights along the front of the roof.

I also use the built in FM transmitter as my CD/radio has no aux. input. The sound is OK. Since I don't have a high-priced system in the truck, this is adequate.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Mike - Mine is currently hooked up using the FM modulator that's built into the mobile docking unit, but the sound quality is just so-so. I plan to hook it directly to my Alpine head unit using a special adapter cable made by Alpine once Crutchfield gets it back in stock. I really like the Audiovox PNP2 due to the display. I think the display is a little bigger than the JVC even though the over all unit is smaller. Thanks for the heads up on sealing the 3rd tail light. I ran the antenna through there, but had not sealed it up. I may just stuff a very small amount of plumbers putty in there to seal it off. I'm afraid the silicone might mess up the existing seal if I ever need to take it off to replace the bulbs.

JK - I think I'm going to make my own bracket as well. The Brolin mount just seems too big for what I want to use it for. I may make a scaled down version for the PNP2.

I'll post some pics when I get it permanently mounted.

If you haven't figured it out yet... . Ditch the modulator. I had the same thing and what garbage it was. I bought the Audiovox hardwire adaptor for about $15 and man what a tremendous difference it made. I also have my unit adhesive mounted to the floor cupholder and can still use all of my cup holders. After the mounting quandry and ditching the modulator... everything is great.

Mine sits on a grate on the dash in front of the steering wheel next to the pillar. It doesn't move and you can't really see it. It's the same color as my dash so you don't really notice it from the outside either. I run the wire in the cracks and crevices and it does fine. It will momentarily loose the signal (about 3 or 4 seconds) if you go under an overpass. I'm not sure if this is because of where my antenna is mounted or just the nature of the radio. The best place reception wise is probably to mount it on the roof however this may not be the best place for everyone and is a little more complicated than just setting it on the dash. Hope this helps. :)
