Howdie everyone,

I have been looking for a '98 12v CTD, 4X4, 5-speed, shortbed, quad cab with fairly low mileage and I finally found one. It only has 55,000 miles on it, is in good shape, hasn't been used for much towing, and hasn't been bombed. It has the bare bones options as far as interior, radio, no-power anything, floor mates and such. The owner has been changing the oil every 3000 miles with "jiffy lube all weather diesel oil" or something like that. Also, it has 4. 10 gears.

What is a good price for this truck? Also, what, if anything, should I be concerned about and look into? Is there anything that would show the truck hasn't been taken care of too well? Finally, what options were available on '98 trucks? Not that it would make much of a difference whether to get it or not, but I'm curious as to how "bare bones" it really is. Thanks a lot for your help. I can't wait to be a proud owner of my first Dodge cummins!

RNichols, sounds somewhat like the truck I bought a year ago in August. Mine was a plain Jane 1996 with extended cab, 4x4, 5sp, with 67,000 miles. Mine was a long bed and has 3. 54 gears. I paid $17,000 for mine in San Antonio.

As for options, I miss nothing except the electric door locks. I am even used to the crank windows by now! The '98 quad cab came with everything including leather. I quess that you will have to answer for yourself what you can live without. I would think that that truck would sell for 19 to 21 K depending on it's location. Just a guess.

Good luck!

Not exactly the same but might help give you an idea, I'm going to look at a '98 2500 12v std cab, 4x4, AT, sport, loaded, 80k they are asking $17k for the truck... might be able to talk them down to 16-16. 5... would be nice to have a "new" truck someday:)

How does that sounds for a price?

I would say anywhere between $15k and $18k would be fair, depending on the condition. It also seems these trucks dramatically vary in price from one location to another.
