I have been looking around for an OEM Jake brake for my truck and was wondering if you guys and gals might be able to help me find one for cheaper than at the dealer. Thanks for any help. :D

As far as I know the jacobs brake is only available through the dealer network..... don't even think you can get it from Cummins... . If you'd like a quote on the PacBrake drop me a note... We have some great deals for TDR members... .

I've seen them on E-Bay.

I love my pac brake. no serpentine belt to worry about. Air compressor is alot cheaper to replce than the vaccum pump that comes with the jake. You have an air compressor for other things, like air bags, air horns or just airing up tires.

Swift Dodge in Sacramento will sell you the factory brake for an 06, PN 82209823 for $50. 00 over cost or $1040. They will ship anywhere also. Contact Phil Kreutzer at 800 554-8500. Just about the best price you will get on genuine Cummins part. I just picked up another one there for my neighbor a couple of weeks ago. Tell him you saw it posted on TDR.

Understanding that DC hasn't and probably wont come up with a software fix so the 05 automatics can use an exaust brake. Whats the down side of just installing one, besides probably voiding the transmission warranty?

thanks

wow people, this is some great information, and fast. Jim, does the Pac brake come with the air compressor? If it does I think I will be calling you on the 2nd or 3rd of next month when I get my bonus. I always have plans of putting it into my savings or stocks and bonds but there is always something that I want that overcomes my willpower. This year its an exhaust brake.

thanks again, Shawn

You might try calling Dave Smith Motors, Kellogg, Idaho. They are supposedly the nation's largest Dodge truck dealer. I bought mine from them and they will ship to you. Incidentally I have never had any belt problems in 20k miles. Compare it to the Pac Brake. I have a friend who has one. I am very happy with my Jake brake. Possibly it's the era I came from. Jake brakes have been around forever. JH

Yes it does come with the compressor and it is a better price than the Jacobs brake!

Just PM jelag Jim will take care of you.

Major downside to the Jacobs is vacuume pump reliabilitys. ine on my 03 went sounth after just 40K miles. And they want about a grand for a new pump. Go with the Pac.

thats what I keep hearing, go with pac, go with pac. How does that affect the Dodge/Cummins warranty?

They can't void your warrenty because you didn't buy their recomended exhaust brake, unless they can prove damage to your engine was caused by said brake.

contact a cummins dealer they are alot cheaper through cummins than the dealer i got mine for about 700 dollars dealer wanted over 1000 dollars or get a pac brake but doenst look as good and functions about the same my father has a pac brake on his rig and they both work about the same in my opinion

Did you do the install yourself? If so, how tough was it? I'm pretty decent mechanically as long as it comes with good instructions and doesn't require special tools.

The install is not bad at all. Basic hand tools are all you'll need. insttructions are thurough and you have your own tech support dept here at TDR!

It's a nit but for a purest a "Jake Brake" is one that opens the exhasut valve to release compression pressure. Thats the brrrrrrrup you hear when a class 8 comes into town.

The brake used on our engines is an exhaust brake , some which are made by Jacobs Mfg Co. They also make the "Jake Brake".

I had my elbow mount PacBrake with remote gearshift operating button and compressor installed for $1004 at Precision Diesel Service in Surrey , BC. Works excellent. :)

You are correct. The term "Jake Brake" is used by Jacobs to apply to their product for the Cummins engine. They provide a couple of badges to be applied to the truck if you wish. While it is an excellent product, and very well engineered, it is not the original in the purest sense. JH

Can Pac brake be used with 06 3500 with automatic? It appears that Pac brake is superior to Mopar, but I am concerned Pac brake might damage transmission and void warrantee. Where in the Twin Cities can Pac brake products be purchased and installed? Bruce
