good price for a jake brake?

Yes, it will work on the 2006. The 2006 is designed for exhasust brake usage with autos and will not void the warranty. I don't know where twin cities is, but I carry them.
 
I just installed my Jake brand brake on my '06. It is the '05 part #. I talked to Cummins, Jake and Dodge. They all say that the only difference between the '05 and the '06 jake brake is the length of one wire going to the ECM. In '06 the ECM was moved to the other side of the engine block. Jake changed the wire length and generated a whole new part # for the brake kit. I just lenthened the wire and it works fine. I bought mine off eBay for $700 from a dealer on the east coast.

Who was the dealer in the NorthEast? I want to order one also. Does anybody know if this thing will fit with an AFE stage 2 bolted on? (For a 2007 Mega)

I see alot of guys going with pacbrake. I'd really curious about one thing. installed mine in the beginning of the summer I don't know how I wentr so long without it. One problem, I drive 12-16 hours a day. It mounts right over the engine and tends to get hot all the time. I called Pacbrake and they told me to move the vent inlet which I did, still overheats alot. I have made it regular practice to pour water over the compressor everytime I stop for fuel. This helps but is kind of a pain. Are you guys that are running pacbrake having similar problems?
 
I don't recall the dealer that sold me the brake. It was on eBay. They had two and I bought both of them. I sold one to a co-worker at my cost and we put them on one afternoon, helping each other. The only hard part is that belt. It's a real pain!!
 
When I was at the dealer last time I asked about having an exhaust brake, not approved by the dealer (only Jacobs is), and was told that anything else but Jacobs will void your warranty period. They even had some kind of paparwork on it, for them to pay attention. But that's only what I've been told. You should do a good inquiry about it. Good luck.
 
I called my dealer today. $1725. 00 installed 3 year warranty parts/labor if I buy there.



My internal debate is, if I buy now, I can benefit now (faster warmups), don't really need the exhaust brake until I start towing again next Spring/Summer (Jeep on a trailer). Unfortunately, here in Iowa there are not alot of dealers with experienced mechanics who can do this. I'm quite sure I could install myself, with guidance from TDR members. But I would have to lose my warranty because of a $360-400 labor cost.

Yep the brake has always come with the compressor... . in the kit... and now includes an air tank, and air hose... . Our trucks have air horns, and air bags that we've installed and use the tank supplied air for running these as well.....



I think if you go to thier web sights and do the comparison. . you'll find that the Pac has more retarding HP at lower RPM than the others... We used to be a Jacobs Brake distributor many years ago... . we felt that Pac offered some better ideas and we haven't looked back... . We've been in the business here for oh gosh. . 30 years I'm guessing... .

Mine has never "overheated" and I've been towing in temps over 100 degrees. The fact is its been flawless!

Does yours actually stop working or is it that you feel it just gets too hot?

The brake is warranted for 3 years whether you install it or the dealer installs it. The installation is also warranted for 3 years if the dealer installs it. If you DIY, you have to provide the labor.
 
I've got 4 trucks running this compressor..... 3 Dodges and 1 Ford... . total of about 600k miles... . maybe a little more. . we have no problems with the compressor... . With air bags, air horn, and the exhaust brake I don't think the compressor runs more than 5% of the time in traffic... ... (using the exhaust brake)



Could you have a leak, and the compressor is running longer than it should... causing the heat build up... BTW - we run ours across the desert at 115* without issues...



The PacBrake interfaces with the ECM exactly the same way as the Jacobs unit... so it functions the same way with the 06 Automatic... no problems...



On some other trucks you can order either the Jacobs or PacBrake from the factory on Cummins Engines... . its an option you choose at the time you order the truck..... based on the engine it can be either an exhaust brake or an engine brake... .



In one of the posts I read where it was asked if would be a benefit to install an exhaust brake on an earlier Automatic without doing a thing to the transmission. I wouldn't suggest spending the money for either the Jacobs or PacBrake without upgrading the firmware in the early transmissions... . they don't have the ability to transmit the power through the torque converter without this modification... . so its really a waste of money for the exhaust brake.....

I have the pac brake but opted to use my own compressor IE Kilby enterprises http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/KE-3100-K.htm WOW what a compressor. anyways when I got my pac brake from Jim he set me up with a soloniod to run the brake. long story short it works GREAT, and I have a compressor that kicks some serious air output, with or without a tank the kilby system rocks with pac brake. And I can run any air tool out there.
