WalMart has them for $142 per tire - 235/85/16 E rated 80psi. The tire store I like to do business with has them for $172. How close should a small locally owned tire store be able to get to the WalMart price. I'm going to buy before long, and I will ask the local store to do better on their price, but I feel $30 per tire is way to much. I don't mine paying $10 more per tire, what is your experience?

Tire Prices

I just went through the same. Wal-Mart had the best price by far on the same tires you are pricing. I prefer doing business with the local guys but couldn't justify the price difference.

As a note, I pulled my wheel skins and hubcaps before taking the truck over to the Wal-Mart kids. They also reinstalled the right rear wheels with the valve stems misaligned. So, check their work if you buy there. I did notice that they used a hand torque wrench instead of an air impact to tighten the lug nuts.

Thanks Gary, I checked my local Sam's club and they were the same price as Walmart.

Mike H that was smart on the wheel skins. How did they do with the balance? Mike are you saying that your local store would not get close to the WalMart price?

I payed $170 apiece at Plains Tire which includes free flat repair and lifetime rotation. Our local Walmart doesn't have a tire center and I wanted to stay local.

Kim the $142 was just for the tire. It does not include mounting and balancing and new stem or tax. What was the price of your tire? Sounds like yours was a small local place, that would compare to the one I want to do business with.

Thanks

When I got mine, I payed $125. 00 each, mounted balalnced free lifetime rotation and balancing.

My local price club had them, but they were LR-C, not E.

I got them at Sears. The reason they were so cheap was, they couldnt get them. I waited something like 2 months. The manager said "I'll make it worth your while". :D

PS Ph yea, I got the 265's not the 235/85's.

LTX M/S

HI ALL,

just got done putting some LTX's on my 3500. my local price club (COSTCO) had them for 139. 00. they had 4 of them in stock and had to order the other 2. all 6 ran me $860. 00. on the rim and out the door. that also includes lifetime rotation and balancing, plus flat repairs. this was by far the cheapest that i had found them, and i usually can not beat a MR. TIRE price anywhere. a word of warning. make sure they set the balancing machine up correctly for your truck. i had to mine back 3 times before they realized what they were doing. they finally did get it right. now the tires feel great. good luck with where ever you get tires from. just watch over your baby. i think the boys at price club think that me and my truck are having an affair. funny. none of them own a diesel. they just dont understand:D

"CHICKENHAWK"

p. s. these are E rated tires.

Pit Bull,

Tell the local guy what Wally World sells them for, he might suprise you and give you a fair deal. I'm sure that his service after the sale would be better also.

Pit Bull: I justed looked at my invoice and I was off a little on the price. It says: "171. 99 each includes free: new valve stems, mounting and balancing, flat repair, road hazard, and lifetime rotation". That did not include tax. I can't tell you what the actual price was for the tire. They had them on sale for about 10 bucks cheaper about a month after I bought. Plains is a local franchise of American Car Care Centers. I believe they have several stores in Wyoming.

Just be sure you are getting the tire you think you are getting. I know my local BJ's carrys michelins, but what "looks like" an X-1 is called a michelin X, but its a different tire. I also saw something that was named different like TX or something that almost imitated the LTX. Just besure to compair them to the local michelin dealer to make sure that is really the tire you think it is.

I checked tirerack, they wanted $149. 00 each plus shipping, so you may have found a good deal if they are the same tires.

Michelin LTX's

My 92 got a new set of 235's 4. 5 years ago from Costco and they cost less than $130 a piece.

Good point Towpro, they have a 235/85/16 Michelin LTX/MS that is "E" rated but it is a 60psi tire. The ones I am looking for are "E" rated and 80psi tires. Also it is not alway about the money. I am willing to pay 10% more for the small business guy and the service I feel he brings to the table. I won't pay 20% more. Which is how he is priced right now. I will give him a chance to win my business. I like to support the little guy.

Well, I bought the new tires. Ended up buying from the local tire store. When I went back to Sams to order the tires they bring them up on the computer and their price is $154 plus shipping. Same thing at Wally world. Both places quoted me prices out of their book and I wrote them down. Then when it came time to order they use the computer and quote a different price. When I call them on it they say that no employee should quote a price from the book, it is old. So I ask why did you do that and waste my time? They just stand there and look stupid. At Sams club they try to sell me the Michelin "X" tire that Michelin makes just for them. It is suppose to be a 10 ply E rated 235/85/16 M/S tire 80psi. They could sell me that one for $140. I said to hell with this bait and switch crap and went to my local tire guy who employs professional installers that do the work right the first time and spent $172 per tire and felt good doing it. When I compared the real bottom line out the door prices from all of them the local guy was within 10% of Sams club and Wally world. I will willingly pay 10% more for the service.
