Good Shop for Clutch replace in Denver

Hi All,



With my clutch slipping frequently, it is time for an upgrade.



Anybody out there have a good experience with a shop in Denver?



i have tried talking to ATS and they are a bunch of clowns. They are

giving me the run-around and don't return my calls. They can't give me a quote after I tell them the South Bend part number that I want. (South Bend G56-OFEK)

I'm a first gen owner, so this may not be who you want to hear from. I have used Advanced Transmission in Lakewood, Colorado for other maintainence, transmission seals, T-case seals, drum replacement, etc. . Danny is the owner, Richard is a top mechanic. However, they install LUC clutches, and guarentee their work. You might talk with Danny about doing the S. B. . Hope this is helpful?

I ordered my S. B. clutch through Slee Off Road, in Golden. The clutch job on "Old Ugly" was accomplished as a Do-it-yourself project that really grew. Just some thoughts. GregH

You could also try Laserbob (Bob Berends) up in Greeley (you may remember him from some of the older RMTDR get togethers). I also have been quite pleased with the work he has done for me. Though Greeley is not exactly right down the street. 970-356-6444

+1 for Performance Car and Truck, I and the several people I have I have recommended have been very happy with their Service. Give Rob or Bryan at the shop a call and he'll take care of you.

I did this myself with the old 98. It took me all weekend. The parts are big and heavy and dangerous for one guy without the right tools. I swore I would never do it again.

Yep!, I hired a friend and it still took "months" to get-er back on the road. My project kept snowballing.

Are you gonna do the rear main seal? GregH

I guess the rear main would be a good idea. The truck only has about 65K miles on it now. How long should the rear main last? My old '98 didn't start leaking until about 230k.

I dont pretend to be an expert, here. Each motor is a law unto itself. My old 1st gen. was leaking slightly at the time of the clutch replacement, at 183,000. The newer trucks are a mystery to me. That being said, If it does start to leak after the clutch is in, then you have double the work. You could just let it alone, and hope for a repeat performance similar to the '98. Thats a decision that you will have to make. GregH

I wouldn't call anybody else other than Laser Bob!! He does work for DTT and anything else you need. He is located in Greeley, but for the work its worth the drive. Call him,970-356-6444. YOU WONT REGRET IT!!

This is the first complaint I've heard about ATS. From everything else I've heard they are a first-rate shop in lots of different ways. I don't recall Danny being the owner; in fact, I thought it was someone else... I'd recognize his name. His wife's a looker too! Arg! Is she ever! I've had some work done there (shop, not the wife) and would go back more often, but I live too far away.

When I talked to ATS, they gave me a bunch of BS. They never returned my calls. I asked them for advice and they would not give me any real answers. When I told them I use my truck for towing and not racing, they told me I needed a "racing" clutch. They said the "k" in OFEK means racing. After talking directly with South Bend and found out the "k" measns"kit"! What a bone head.



I ended up having Performance Car and Truck do the work. They really busted their backsides and did it in 1 day. They know their stuff, gave me real answers and I trust them.

Lazer Bob is the BOMB he has saved my butt more than once I will go to him when my trans needs gone thru mind you I live in Oregon CALL BOB I have him in my cell if I'm close when I'm traveling that's who I call!!!!!!

Sorry you had problems with 'em, Sean, but they're definitely a performance shop -- power upgrades, trannies and clutches to handle the power, etc. I'm surprised they couldn't help you. Maybe next time... They've sponsored several workshops and Cummins reps have been there. The TDR knows 'em well. But glad somebody else got you fixed up.

Another recommendation for Laser Bob. He has done some work for me on my 12V and I was very pleased. Btw I drove all the way from Trinidad to take my truck to him...

The best I've seen is Kirt at Colo. 4 Wheel Drive in Ft Collins. He has been in business for over 20 years and has been working on my trucks for that long and then some. I've never had to take one back after he's repaired it. He is honest and is always willing to answer questions and his prices are always fair. He is also a member of TDR.
