Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) good time for a clutch

I am in need of a new clutch. My stock wont handle the power anymore. I need some advice on what clutch is best. A SBC Con FE or SBC Con OFE. I have a 2002 ETH with Mach 2. 4 injectors and a power puck. In the near future I am going with a bigger turbo and an AFE. I tow about 5 times a year.

Probably hold that with an OFe but I'm sure Peter from SBC will confirm or recommend otherwise.

I'm there with Kiwi Bird. Give Peter a call at SB and He'll hook you up. He's very familar with the latest upgrades and understand the products well. I just install and 13". Feels great. No problems with the mods I have either.

I don't know if any of you have herd about or tried it, but as for as the 5spd, you can use the 1st. gen. clutch pack. My brother-in-law has been installing these in 2nd. gen. trucks and has had very happy customers. You get a larger and heavier clutch, but keep the smoothness of a stocker. And yes, some of these are high power trucks.

I would go with the FE over the OFE. It's plenty drivable and bites a little harder.



If you're gonna upgrade the clutch, I would get one you won't have to do again for a while-- meaning, plan ahead for future BOMBs.

After talking with Richard, I should have probably gone with the OFE vs. the FE.



The FE is getting more aggressive now that it is broken in.



In one aspect, I ceratainly won't ever come close to slipping the FE.

I'm not yet at the "MUST HAVE" stage = but certainly would jump at a group buy if one was available that provided more than token savings - I'm not real sure what the current going price IS for a Con OFE for a '02 HO - but assume somewhere $750+...

I'm gonna need a Con OFE but I wanted to wait until the weather warmed up a bit. Its cold in Ohio right now. I think the price for a Con OFE is going to be in the $1100. range. Give or take a hundred. But dont quote me on that.

For your 5spd it will be around that much, but I think all? or most? of the 6spds have the bigger fly wheel and will be a few hundred less. Most ofe's I've seen with out flywheel run around 900-1000. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

My brother needs an ofe for his 97. He was thinking centerforce so I changed his mind for him. He said he would be interested in one for at a discounted price.



Don't know why he was thinking of buying another centerforce, he said he could slip the one he had in his 95 with just a mild torque plate. I think he has been talking to his gasser buddys.

now about that group buy clutch idea. i have some interest since the TST box is hopefully in my future and the clutch seems to be a necessary addition. not sure what version of clutch i would need. probably need to make a call before the final decision.

hello to all my new TDR buddies, finally wrote the check and joined TDR, fantastic site! i would be interested in group buy of the MU 13 1. 25 CON OFE. i have 277,000 miles. 1999 3500 1-ton dually. it is a little pricey, how bout the LUK-PRO GOLD? not a 13" but very strong. i'm in the re-build process of my truck, will be buying lots of parts, my truck runs GREAT but am doing suspension, engine performance,etc. i love this truck
