Whew! Survived the Layoffs Yesterday

I hate to say it but the time has come to leave the CTD community. The lack of warranty for the drivetrain behind the mighty CTD prohibited me from keeping it any longer. It's pretty bad when the truck is in the shop 3 times in 3 months. . each time towed there. For a $38K truck, I guess I expected a little more reliability in the 1st year/ 24,000 highway non-towing miles.

I have some goodies to part with from my TDR experience(which was BTW GREAT!) Good community and knowledge. Look in the classifieds... . for the various electrical, exterior, and interior gadgets.

See you on the VW TDI sites... ..... spaceace

just enough problems

1. Lost fuel prime after filter change. Could not get to prime using only the lift pump. I had to pay because they primed the filter at the dealership... . see #2

2. Lost fuel pressure going down the road. Changed injection pump module or the like. Changed lift pump. Determined to be a faulty fuel gauge. I knew this because I had 600 miles and still a quarter tank My lift pump pressure was at 4-5 psi just before pulling it on the rollback. I took the free parts anyway. See #1 (that was at a quarter of a tank on a slope. ) Parts on national backorder.

3. Lost the clutch and most forward gears when shifting from 5th to 6th. Changed slave cylinder. Determined clutch to be broken apart. Close to $2000 that I was to pay out of pocket, clutch not covered. Upon inspection, I pleaded with DC to cover due to no bluing, wear or signs of abuse. Clutch disc was literally falling apart. Clutch has never slipped, even under load... any gear. They did pay

12000 miles left and what is next... ... ? I can't afford the 6 speed to fail due to prior problems or another clutch.

Had the 100k been on the whole drivetrain. . I might have reconsidered.

:D

I also got tired of the numerous problems I had with a '98 12v. I dumped it almost a year ago. But I still stop here to visit!

I know the fustration!!

Sure I can say it. If you need to buy it, it's time to buy another vehicle. Think about warranties... most of the time they do not cover the stuff that breaks...

To late... it is gone... ... :D

Well get another one!! I have had 3 CTD's and have had very little problems with them. So you had a lemon it happens. I have 75k on my truck and I had 1 lift pump fail and got that coverd for free. Other then that ZERO problems. If you love the truck dont let it hold you back for another one. IMO

Space, I won't try to get you to keep it or get another. It is your $$ and your happiness that is at issue, and you made the decision that you feel is right. There is no fault in that.

I have to say that I wish I had gotten rid of mine before the warranty ended, but I would have bought another. Seems that once you have some trouble (major trouble) come up several times in a short time period that confidence is shaken and will be really hard to get back. I bought the warranty and fought the truck and the dealers for another 50K miles, not worth it but at this point finances dictate that I keep it. Mine has earned my trust again finally, but what a hassle. I agree completely, if you "NEED" the warranty it is time to get out of Dodge!!!

I applaud your honesty, and courtesy. Best wishes in the future.

Which is why I bought mine used

Fully 90% of my truck's problems were made manifest while the original owner had possession. Beyond that he had many upgrades done before he was obliged to sell the truck.

It was a win-win for me.

$50 was all it cost to transfer the extended warranty, and that paid for front axle seals, transfer case front yoke and seal, and a new 5sp transmission.

All kidding aside, my truck is better than when it was new. 110,000 miles later.

To All

Please don't mistake what I am saying here. I am sure Dodge makes many good 1st quality vehicles.

My situation dictated either committing money to future problems, or stopping the bleeding. The only way my budget could support the kind of problems I was having(in the future), surely would be in the form of debt. So I stopped the bleeding.

It was a hard choice for me , but one that DC should assume responsibility for. :D

Like I said above... I have throughly enjoyed my time here on the forums.

Take care.....
