Finally got rid of the BFG's and hopefully DW. Found an E rated tire that wasn't a doughnut or one that I needed 6" inches of lift to fit. Pro Comp X-AT, 305 16. 5 17. Never had PC's, but hope for the best, so far not the least sign of DW but I've only put about 500 miles on them. Real test will be driving home to SoCal from Oklahoma after 4 months here doing the Air Force thing.

Thanks for the info. It's about time someone else had E load tires in various 17" sizes other than Toyo. You will have to keep us posted.

Those are a nice looking tire, the tread reminds me of the Dunlop radial rover RV's

a design i've always had good luck with, anybody found a price yet?

I've never heard much good come from Pro Comp tires. Most people call them Pro Crap :-laf

They are made by Cooper Tire Company.

We had some on a Ford F350 that wore very well.

But then again I did buy 285 BFG A/T.

That could be. I haven't personally run them. Just what I've heard is that they were basically a 20,000 mile tire.

I am glad to see people trying different tires and meeting with success. I'm running 35" TrXus MTs (load range E), and I am having serious balance and vibration issues, and they are not wearing well. I am sure a lot of it is due to the fact that Discount Tire can't balance a tire to save their lives. I have had them try at least 5 times, but now they are cupped out. I have centramatics on now, but I fear it is too late - around 65mph the whole truck shakes. It is really too bad since they were very stable to start off with (cured DW) and have traction to crawl over anything. I don't think I have even heard of a good 35"/315 tire that doesn't cost Toyo money (and they don't sound like they wear very well).

Not to go completely off topic, but I would love to hear more accounts of people who had BFG 315s and DW that was fixed by going to another off-road oriented 35" tire.

I had the DW happen @ 20k. I was headed back to WA from Phoenix, and I was getting ready to take the exit off the freeway into Bullhead to go over the Hoover Dam. Pretty scary @ 80MPH.

This was with the 315 BFG's. The fix was the Toyo's. No DW since.

LAugustine,

Did you mount the Pro-Comps on the stock wheels?

This is the tire I'm thinking of going with next - on stock rims. Do you have any pics?

My tires are 305 65 17's, got em at America/ Discount Tires in Wichita Falls, Tx for about $ 230 a tire. They had to order them for me because they don't carry ProComps, no big deal. Mounted on stock wheels, look great, no pics posted yet will have to work on it, in between rotations to the Sand Box.

I have 35x12. 5x17 pro comp mud terrains mounted on stock wheels for about 10k now. Although they are little loud they have great on road and offroad feel. I run the psi in them a little low when unloaded and they have given great wear. I am thinking these tires will last atleast 35k and my next tires will be x-terrains. Buy them during their buy 3 get 1 free and save a ton. No balancing issues either.

What did you mean by "but then again I did buy 285 BFG?" I was planning on buying the same tires... are they not a good tire?

on the procomp website the 35x12. 5x17 xtreme-at is a D rated tire, at only 3,000 lb's.

My experience with 285 BFG's has overall been good. The only problem has been balance problems with one tire. Three tires take minimal weight, maybe 2-3 oz's. The other one takes 8-9 oz's consistently. Discount has refused to replace it saying it's "within specs" (sounds like D/C). They do offer an "E" rated 285-75-16 now and I'd recommend that one. Discount Tires quoted me $208. 00 apiece yesterday. Should be a sale coming up soon.
