I am looking at new off-road tires, not for a daily driver. I was looking at the Goodyear Wrangler MTR but I saw the new Goodrich KM2 (?) for about the same price. Its based on the Krawler.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these tires? This will mainly be off road for trails, sand, and some snow. But, there is not a lot of mud around here.

Or is there a better tire you recommend??

I've had nothing but problems with BFGs, never had KM2s but every other BFG I've had was junk, sidewalls splitting off unexpectedly, lugs tearing too easy, the MTR is an excellent on/off-road tire, but if you want something for sand and snow go with Interco Super Swamper SSRs or Boggers stay away from LTBs and Thornbirds. I am running 38. 5" swampers now but am going to a 37" Bogger for more aggressive mud and snow

One of the guys on DTX has the km2's and loves them. He does a lot og driving in Mexico... ... ... ... so far so good. His handle is KMU

Do you want tread life or tread bite? You can't have both, the MTR is a good Trail tire for the highway I had a set last 65,000 and they weren't terrible. Now swampers and boggers will tear it up off road, but you can see visible wear after 300 miles on the road. NEVER NEVER NEVER RUN BFGs you couldn't pay me to put them on my truck, I had a brand new one blow apart on the highway going 75, less than a week after I got them, and BFG told me "to bad", they wouldn't even replace the tire, let alone the side of my bed. You're better off with a set of General Grabber MTs, at least when they fall apart you're only out $100ea. If you're serioius about off-roading you can forget BFG, Good Year and all of them, stick with INTERCO, although I've been eyeballing the new Dick Cepek Crushers they look a little more aggressive than the MTR but still street friendly.

I've had good results with BFGs, it's a ten minute drive to get to a paved road from home, and that includes mud when it rains. Great traction on steep, rocky, sharp rocky inclines that we have in SW desert areas.

Stable at 80mph-90mph desert roads with stock suspension when you get the urge to open it up a bit. In the mid-90s I was running a warmed over sbc 400 (probably more torque than the HO Cummins I have) in a Blazer and managed a first place in a multi club desert course.

Arizona heat is tough on a lot of things and all the BFGs I've run have held up well, except for one flat tire out in the middle of nowhere. :)

BFG's

I have run BFG AT's for over a decade with no complaint. Yes, I have chunked some tread off on rough sharp trails, but that is the cost of a softer compound that grips rocks IMO.

I am currently running 315/75R/16 (~35") KM2's and love them. They are quite aggressive on the trail and really stick to the slickrock. They will not last as long as my AT's as they are softer and grip better. I can sometimes see the black marks on the slickrock when I turn if the rear doesn't unlock.

I am wheeling a 92 W350, Detroit in the rear and open front. With the weight of the 6Bt on the nose, I rarely have an issue with front spin. I almost never have a front tire in the air, a rear goes up instead.

The KM2 is remarkably quiet on the highway and handles fine at 80.

I have seen and heard good things about the goodyear as well, but around Moab you see more BFG's. If you are climbing rocks, go KM2.

I would say it depends on what kind of trails you want to run and who is a good tire dealer in your area. Sometimes the service from a good dealer can tip the scales.

I've had great luck with Goodyear and Michelin. I wouldn't have a BFG.

I have had many sets of BFG All Terrains on a number of vehicles over the years, and for a compromise on-highway/off-road tire, they have been a pretty great tire. I also ran a couple of sets of BFG Mud-Terrains, and while they were better off-road than the AT's, they were noisy on-highway and didn't wear worth a darn. I have been running 35" Goodyear MT/R's on my Jeep TJ for quite a while now, and I really like those tires a lot (very good off-road and decent on-highway). But the tires that I can't get over are the current set of 35x12. 50R17 Toyo Open Country MT's on my Dodge 3500. These are simply a killer tire. Superb traction off-road (even fully aired-up with my Outfitter camper on board), and yet, despite the aggressive tread pattern, they are surprisingly quiet on-highway.

BFG all the way. i run nothing but. i got 60k on my 1st set. good year is a decent tire. but my personal choice is BFG. no toyo!!!!

I had a set of BFG 315's on the 3rd gen... ... ... . death wobble even with everything fresh and dual steering stabilizers. Installed Toyos no more issue.

I still have the Bfg 315 Ats(in 16") on the 94 but I have a road hazard policy on them and get replacement tires covered every couple years when they start separating

I ran my MTR's for almost 44k. Towards the end I missed a few tire rotations and they became real choppy, to the point where they got real noisy so I swapped em out. Still had usable tread on them. I ran them on the beach in some deep, soft sand with no problems. Overall a good tire. I swapped to a Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 315/70/17. They are a little quieter on the road, do real well on the beach and in the snow but are wearing quicker than the Goodyears.
