Goodyear or BFG???

Well, I got the size thing pretty much squared away. Now, the question is what works better? In my area the availability seems th be between the BFG mudder and the Goodyear MT/R. Any of you folks got something to say one way or the other?

I've run the BFG tires before, but not the Goodyear. The Goodyear looks like a really tough tire, but I'd love some feedback from anyone that has seen these things.

BFG'S!!

I've had BFG's and I've had Goodyear Wranglers- Stick with the Mud Terrains. I got 60,00+ mi. out of them, mostly on the highway. Superior mud tire, but a little loud. If you want a quieter tire, go with the BFG Trail T/A. Excellent, even wear, excellent handling, not to loud, great snow/mud tire. These two are the best bang for your buck! I replaced Michellins that weren't worn out with the Trail T/A's. Replaced Wrangler's when they were worn with the Mud Terrain's. My . 02. ~Jim.

I just ordered new tires and was considering the same thing. These comments steered me toward BFG. BTW, ordered from http://www.ntwonline.com and received good service and price.

Seriously, the new GoodYear MT-R is a different tire than previous Wranglers. It is very close to the BFG, and has excellent grip. Like any mud tire, you can't ask for it to last a long time, though.

If I decide to go to a mud tire, I am considering this one. They do work good in other areas besides mud.

My understanding and I should say that I might be wrong,but the MT-r is a softer compound tire for serious 4 wheeling. So it should not last on road. I was fourswheeling with frieinds in jeeps over the weekend and the suprise was the most outstanding tire I saw in the real world was the general Grabber MT. It really kicked A$$ in the mud. This is compared to BFG mts and the goodyear MT-R.



I just took the BFG mt's off my truck because they had been around the block one to many time and I am much happier with my wider BFG at's. The MTs, when new, were great in deep mud and deep snow but normal driving, wet pavement and ice the MT's suck boardering on scary.

Hank, I am running the Goodyear MT/R 315/75R16 on 16x9. 5. I was waiting for BFG Mud in the 315, all they could tell me was later this year no release date. While I was there at the tire store I was told the new MT/Rs had 3ply sidewalls ( same as BFG) and they were about 30. 00 less than the BFG All terrain. I was running Goodyear ATS 305/70R16 on 16x8 wheels. The ATSs do not campare at all to the MT/Rs. I have just about 3000 miles on them. They are not a loud howling tire, great in the wet weather, no mushy sidewall like the ATS, I would buy them again. I ran BFG 285/75R16 on my '95. They worked great in wet, snow, impressed with traction on ice. I wanted a mud tire on this truck or I would have bought the BFG A/T.

I run the BFG A/T like them. I go in the woods for fire wood and and on the beach as well. Snow up in Mich and they perform great. I have 30,000 plus miles on the tires now ( Had them on a 99 2500 before trading) and they look like they are half worn. I don't think I will get 60,000 out of them 50,000 maybe. I rotate tires while the oil drains at 3,000 or so miles.

Hope this helps. I have not run the BFG M/T. If I was going to get a mud tire I would go with the "Bogger" as big as I could to help keep the front up due to all the weight. But that is me.

Another thing I have found that Good/Year lives up to the name " GOOD FOR A YEAR AND THROW THEM AWAY"

Hey Hank!



I have just moved over to the BFG AT "KO" Kamp after leaving Goodyear. I ran the older style 305/70R/16 Goodyear MT's and they were toasted in 30,000 miles w/ frequent rotation on my First Generation. They were loud and wore very quickly and I wasn't completely fond of the "70" series VS other "75" series designs. I realize that the new MT-R is a completely re-designed 3 ply sidewall (similar to the BFG KO design) and my experience w/ the Goodyear MT's isn't a fair comparison.



I now running the 315/75R/16 BFG AT "KO" on my truck & loving them, great wear characteristics, quiet and balanced nicely, good traction... but these aren't the mudder's you're after.



I would have reconsidered (maybe?) the MT-R's if they came in the 315/75R/16 size when I needed them, but after rolling these BFG's I feel like I made the proper decision.



If you like the MT-R's... Go for it! I've heard good things about the revised Goodyear MT-R's. My only concern would be that I would want the 75 series Tire (taller profile) verses the 'steamroller' look of the 70 series design. All of the these tires are 3 ply side wall construction (BFG A/T & M/T and the MT-R) and come in a "D" rated tire (No "E" rated that I'm aware of unless you go 255/85R/16).

I just installed BFG t/a ko 285-75r-16 and love them. I am on my third set of rubber. I got 50k off the wrangles 245-75r-16. However the new BFG's ride so much better. I dont think I will go back to Wranglers on a bet. Just my two lincoln's.

I am waiting for my current set to wear out before installing the BFGs (didn't have the money to do it last time) but I would steer clear of goodyear, I havr had horrible customer service from them on more than one occasion with OEM tires... . .

You did not mention that you drive the "RED ROCKET" and due to the heat from fast acceleration which often occours with such a truck. NO Tire will last very long.

NEW TIRE AVAIL.

I just bought new treads for my generic ram. I wanted Mich LTX as there is no better tire made for Long EVEN wear, Reliabilty and low noise and I have never seen a side wall related failure. I run hundreds if not thousands of miles at 12 to 15 psi and that will waste most tires side walls) The Mich's are also load range "E" 3,400lbs each. Go look at the Good year and BFG truck radials avail for 16" truck rims they are not avail in Load range "E". This is very important if you haul or tow any real loads.



So I am at the Tire store in Tucson with cash in hand 5 min before closing on Sat with 4 "BALD" tires on my truck and am headed home to Mexico to pick up a 14,000lb trailer. They are out of Mich LTX! So after much spec investigation I decided to try the new BFG All Terrain T/A KO's. They have a new Tri-gaurd 3 ply side wall that also has a raised rib to protect the Bead and Rim area. They are 5 ply tread. Two of which are steel! And their rating is up to "D" with a Capacity of 3,300 lbs. Generally a high weight capacity shows Rugged construction of the tire. This shows up in little problems with impact and heat related and side wall failures. The other feature of the BFG's was they are available in 285/75/16 one size larger than the Mich. The tread is aggressive yet quite on the hiway. I doubt they will last like Mich's but if they wear even and no failures I will be happy.

My last rig I built (chebby) with 35X12. 50X15 BFG mud terrains =70,000. My Tahoe With Bfg Mud Terrains = 52,000 (Still going) and the dually = 13,000 and still going ( Except if I could just stop burnouts )

I bought my ram recently, and it came with the pep boys brand 265/75/16 futura mud terrain hoopie tires, and they are HORRIBLE!



They all have good tread, but I am thinking of replacing them because of the amount of noise they generate on the highway.



I don't know how anyone could stand listening to that at 65mph. And someone actually put these on a 2wd truck.

I have had the BFG KO's on for 13+ months now and my next set of tires will probably be the BFG Mud-Terrains.



I despise the KO's. Although they ride great and have worn extremely well, They pickup and throw more rocks than a bunch of Palestinians!!

LOL ... ... ... I think you are right. Maybe they helped with the tread design!



2 days with my KO's and I think the "KO" stands for Knocking out windshields and headlights.

I'll agree with the KO's, and many other "all-terrain" tires, being stone throwers. That is what is making me debate about going with a little more agressive tire, the wide voids on "mudders" don't pick up every damn stone out there.
