Whats a tire options do I have to replace my Goodyear tires? In the last three years I have been having tire problems. Each year I get a blow out or other failure and I can't seem to pinpoint the problem. I replaced each of the tires and Saturday the last of the originals. Its always been a tear in the sidewall. The tire is E rated , wrangler ht , 16 ". I always keep the tires covered when in storage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know what your trailer weighs, but the least I would recommend is Michelin XPS radials in a load range E. They are an all steel tire like a commercial tire. I have Goodyear 614RST in load range G, although mine is pretty heavy(over 13000).

How old are your tires, regardless of tread left, and depending who you talk to 5 to 7 years is the longest you should keep them. Then if you have had a flat or blow out, then all the weight on that side has over loaded the remaining tireand it has been stressed, so the recommendation is to always replace the 2nd tire on that side that had the failure.

Goodyear also makes a G rated tire in a 16 inch. That is what is installed on my McKenzie. You have to have rims rated for 110 psi though.

I ran badyear HT's load range E 16" on the last trailer and never had a problem. I put on around 4-6K miles per year for 6 years. I think backing up around corners is what does the damage. Where I park I back down a driveway that is only around a 20deg turn. I also avoid backing around tight corners everywhere I can.

The titanium has badyear Marithons load range D on it. They are rated to carry more then the weight of the RV, but when sitting still in the campground, the sidewalls flex and you can feel the trailer move when anybody walks across the floor.

Thanks Bill, you and I talked via internet when I was purchasing my 5th wheel and diesel. Whats the pricing on the Michelins? Can I get them most anywhere? Jim

Yep, most Michelin dealers will get them for you. In addition to Discount Tire, you can get them at Sam's Clubs. I bought mine at my local Michelin tire dealer who matched the Discount Tire price.

Several of my RVing friends with heavy 5th wheels (Hitchhiker, Alpenlite, Carriage, Holiday Rambler) have switched from other brand tires with problems similar to yours to the Michelin XPS Rib tires and have been completely satisfied with the results.

Yep, I switched from the OEM Goodyear Wrangler HT (LT235/85R-16E) tires on our previous 5th wheel to Michelin XPS Ribs and couldn't believe how much cooler they ran on the Interstate. The peace of mind was well worth it - I've been through a Goodyear Marathon tread separation failure on our 1st 5th wheel that did $2500 damage and don't care to go through that again. For those that need an E-rated 16" tire, the XPS Rib is a proven problem solver.

Our current 5th wheel came with the G-rated Goodyear Unisteel G614 RST (LT235/85R-16G), and these have given excellent service so far.

I've been using Goodyear G614RST tires on our trailer, 14,000 lbs. , and nary a problem in two years. I've used the Michelin XPS Ribs also, from Costco and they are very good too. No problems. Ted
