i bought a new truck about a week ago and i have been trying to get the removable ball out of the back of the bed. i have used a half can of wd-40, half can of pb bolt blast, a sledge hammer, 36in pipe wrench and i have hooked a gooseneck trailer up to it and lifted the rear of the truck off the ground. the pin pulls out fine but the ball wont move. the safty chain plate spins freely but the ball is stuck. it says putnnam on the ball. any advice? Thanks

Beat it like a rented mule for about 15 minutes. Put that 36 and add a cheater pipe to it ,pull on the left side of it and something has to give... If you dont have a cheater pipe try a come along on the end of the 36 and be carefull. Good luck.

On My 1996 Dodge I Ended Up Haveing To Put Some Heat To It To Break Free And Once You Do Make Sure You Clean All Rust From It An Put Heavy Duty Grease On Both The Ball And The Plate To Stop It From Doing It Agin

now will that ball turn? it isnt sloted or anything right? its round all the way around on the bottom. i think i will have to wait till tonight to get it out its like 110* out right now i hate az summers

wd -40 is some bad stuff I learned

the hard way. we where using it on our guns well to make a long story short my gun smith told me to never use wd 40 and if I did don't bring the gun to his shop

he opened a box that had gun parts in it and man what a mess all where sprayed wd 40 I was shocked he told me that wd 40 was the only thing that would do that i know he knows what he is talking about he has been doing this 30 yr that I know of in the same gun shop

When you get it out clean it good . Put never size on it. Very hard to get off of your hands and clothing

heat it w/ a torch and then quench it with PB blaster or other quality penetrating oil (I 2nd the fact that WD40 is JUNK!!!)

if it still won't go, heat it back up and do what you can to free it (jacking the trailer, hit it w/ the pipe wrench, etc.

dress down all of the pitting with fine sand paper and/or scotchbrite and slather it with never seize

Would suggest cleaning off the rust from the exposed part of the ball on the bottom before trying to pull it out. Less to fight later.

pb is good but if you can get your hands on some kroil do so and be amazed

we use a ton of that stuff offshore! it's awesome, but PB Blaster is good if it's all you can get your hands on

really though, the best penetrating fluid out there is a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone! I know, it sounds absurd, but someone did a study a while back and Kroil and PB were on the list, and ATF/Acetone outperformed both of them!

Maybe to easy; But I had the same problem. That is until I followed that little dowel to the outside and under the left fender there was a handle. Looked like a 90 degree, pulled on it and it came out 6 inches or so. Had wife hold it metal out as I pulled up on ball and it came right out. If that doesn't help, keep soaking until you get it free might be months.
