Bigger Trailer Tires

Anyone out there hauling gooseneck horse trailers with a MegaCab? Talked to a dealer in Ft. Worth who said horse people don't want the MC for hauling GN horse trailers. He said construction guys towing GN flatbeds are buying MC's, but not the horse people. Fact or Fiction?

Thanks

I have seen a few mega cabs towing horse trailers around here. Especially during the pbr. I think most goosenecks have more clearance between the cab and neck than horse trailers. Maybe that is what the dealer was refering to. I think our travalong would have enough clearance for most maneuvers. Might not be able to go a full 90* on a turn though. But it is rare that we need to do that.

Maybe it's the weight ratings being the reasoning behind this. seems the MC's have a lower GVWR rating then a " comparable" QC. D/C's famous "1 step forward, 2 steps back" approach to things!

Well, putting the GVWR aside, I can't see the clearance being a factor. Most GN horse trailers are tapered in the front so the front corners shouldn't even come close to making contact. Is the bed of the MC shorter than a shortbed QC? I thought they were the same. If so, I know there's plenty of shortbed QC's towing horse trailers.

Just curious if any of you MC drivers are having issues with towing horse trailers.

I tow both a bumper pull and a GN horse trailer. Have had NO problems with clearances and the cab. As pointed out by 46mech, the nose is tapered. I bought one of those pipes for my GN trailer that sets the actual trailer part back about a foot off the ball, just in case. I really did not need it as I have plenty of clearance without it. As far as the weight capacity, I haul 4 drafts up in my GN trailer - about 12,000lbs of horses alone. My GN trailer is a full 8' wide x 28' long, tapered nose at 6' front, 4 horse slant with a living quarter. My buper pull is a 6-horse slant stock trailer - about 18,000 lbs of horses when loaded. Both trailers pull without a problem and plenty of power to spare. I believe the QC bed and the MegaCab beds are the same, at least that' what the dealer told me. This is my first short bed, and I have no complaints, it is just fine, does all I throw at it. I like the wheelbase, comprable to a ext cab with an 8' bed, with lots more cab room. When the rear seats are dropped down, plenty of room to haul stuff protected from the weather. We had a matress made to fit the area and it makes a good sleeper too. So far I am very happy with the trucks performance and it is a good all around vehicle. I would recommend the MegaLimo to anyone.

Solunds like a super idea for what I do ... ... ... ... . horse hauling link

I still have written a letter telling Dodge I would like the MegaCab and an 8 foot bed. My company is willing to purchase me a new truck and I may have to switch brands.
