Deck over trailer selection

Flatbed or Toter bed advise needed.

No idea really just mounts the same as mine but how many ways CAN THEY MOUNT THE BALL? I like it because I can take it out and have a flat bed

I have had a POP UP brand gooseneck trailer hitch on my old 2001 and my new 2011 11 years of use been to Alaska Canada and all over US. I have never had any trouble and the ball pops down under the bed by a lever mounted in the tire well. It is very quick to make ready for the gooseneck and to drop the ball for non trailer use. It also requires very little maintenance. Cost is higher than turn over balls but the convenience is worth it in my opinion.

Here is a picture of an ultimate B&W setup with the Companion hitch installed. I toured the plant with a guide and took pictures with thier permission, when they installed the bed, and I can vouch for them, they are top quality, if not the best. The work force is a true American work force, not just made in the USA. The workforce is an intelligent group of guys that I am proud to say that I will only buy from them, if they make what I need.

seems like they are all similar in design... I have a B&W and after some of the crap Ive put it thru. . there will never be any other brand bought... . Its a GREAT design, well written instructions, maintenence free, and leaves me with a clean bed when not in use.

Two questions:

1. Does the b&w ball mount forward of axle centerline? I don't like how my rails mount centered over the axle centerline

2. Has anyone used this? Curt 16310 X-5 5th Wheel Rails for B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch - 5th Wheel Hitches - 16310 Curt X-5 Adapter Rails for B&W Turnover Ball - RadAuto - Radical Automotive Applications

If so, will any standard 5th wheel hitch fit on the rails? It's rated at 20,000 lbs. I have a Reese 22K hitch, but will it still fit?

If this all fits, I would like to still use my 22k hitch, but lose the permanent rails in the truck, as well as have something where the pin center is forward of the rear axle like on my 2001 Dodge. The rails on my '04 and '10 mount centered over the axle. I noticed a huge difference between the '01 and the '04 towing the same camper. The truck liked to buck a lot, on acceleration and on bumpy roads. Having the pin centered slightly forward of rear axle stabilized the whole thing.

And using the Curt adapter saves $400 over purchasing the Companion.

yes,, the B&W turn over ball mounts forward of the axle centerline. . I bet it does buck pretty good over axle or behind... !!. best I remember, the one I installed is rated at 30K...

Andy,

It probably would but I think most flatbeds are factory equipped with a structurally reinforced recessed gooseneck ball platform and ball under the deck surface. My CM bed is.

I had the bed installers install my old and well used Reese fifthwheel rails on the deck and cut down the frame of my hitch to allow for the increased height of the flatbed deck over a pickup bed floor. They sectioned the hitch platform about 3 1/2 inches IIRC.
