Hi,

Not trying to start any wars are arguments here, but if it happens, oh well.

I am ready to upgrade my torque converter. Is there any major difference in performance between a DTT and a Gorenend Bros converters besides the price?

Thanks,

Derek

I'm a stick shift kind of guy so I lack experience with the automatics, but I'd bet you can get a top rate transmission from either source.

I have a Full DTT and of course love it but that is beside the point! My neighbor just put a full built Gorenend transmission in his truck. By Driving both trucks I honestly could not tell a big difference - they both shift firm and feel solid but yet not obnoctious! What made my decision was that after talking to Bill K. at DTT and reading all his write ups on www.dieseltrans.com I new that he knows nearly everything there is to know about our trucks and he has put a lot of time and effort in developing a proven transmission! So I can't say that one is without doubt better than the other but you have to call and talk to both and go with the one you feel best about! Both very good products IMO

DTT builts well built over designed transmisions, but lacks in the converter department. Dave Goerand builts well built transmissions and the converters are triple disk design and last forever. Dave Goerand has the best warrenty and service in the business BAR-NONE. Lifetime on the converter no questions asked.

I have heard good things about both. I'm sure if you called them they would both be glad to talk to you about their products. My experience is with DTT. There was nothing wrong with my stock trans (i thought), it operated as designed  , quite similar to a dog dragging its rear on the ground trying to clean itself :-laf . The DTT however, :--) is amazing, so much tighter than the stock sloshbox. I have changed a lot on my truck, and DTT is still my favorite Bomb. Both companies have great reputations, Talk to them and chose who you like. I am happy with my choice.

Dave

Dave Goerend, no questions asked. If you really want to know why I suggest this then PM me and I can go into detail that shouldn't be gone into detail here. Both have great products though.

You asked about converters and most answered about the whole transmission. My question is what is in the rest of your transmission. DTT now approachs it as a total product, uses more re-engineered hard items to improve the overall design of the transmission. Their transmission is much more than a trans go kit and extra clutches. So what are you putting a new TC in front of? Go in once and do it right the first time. Everytime you go back in, that is around 600 bucks wasted. I would call Dave and Bill, and talk to both of them about what it is that you are trying to do. Go to Bill's web site and read the item about the upgrade to the whole transmission. Ask both for a list of normal and custom items they use and why. SNOKING

ramns-n-hogs just got a GB valvebody and tq convertor for his third gen, he loves it :) from what he said they treated him very well Oo. shoot Jim a PM

Thanks, Chris

I was trying to keep it a secret. :-laf :-laf

Oo. is what I felt like the first time I drove it. And when my head snapped back today once when it locked up, it was more like Oo. Oo. . :D

I pull heavy every weekend , I tractor pull , 14500lbs plus the 7400 lbs for the truck . when it came time for a triple lock I went with Dave just because of what he thinks of this torque converter it's guaranteed for life, how about yours?

I've got a DTT and I'm very happy with it. Don't have any experience with the other one. I think in the end it boils down to what your comfortable with, and what you want to spend. I think there are a lot of good transmission's/convertors out there, find a guy that you feel comfortable working with - this is important in teh event that you DO run into problems (I don't care who's you buy, statistically speaking there is a percentage of every group of machines that fail) and if you're comfortable with the guy and the product, and they have good references, then go for it.

I called Bill. I called Dave. Went w/ Dave. Can't beat that warranty. Daves trannys are definetely not just a shift kit and a couple of extra clutches. He has completely redesigned the stator etc. etc.

Give em both a call. Tell em what you are going to do. Then add about 200 h. p. to that. :-laf Then make your decision.

I also believe that both are a quality product. I went to a dyno day here in Illinois and I think almost everyone had a Goerends. Thats what I went with. So far so good.

Love my GB transmission and TC. Night and day difference. Almost feels like having a handshaker in it. MUCH tighter trans and TC. I would think a GB TC and valvebody would do wonders for you. The triple disc is sweet. Can't slip this one. :D

Never been in a truck with a DTT trans, so I can't compare. Heard good things about them, too. GB is only 4hrs away, so that was a factor for me.
