can i just install the #8 plate & 3000 gsk kits w/ some exhaust/intake mods. without upgrading clutch?

lately when i go to crank my truck it just cranks & spins over, no start, i turn off the ignition switch wait a while try again it either starts or it will start if i do the above sequence once more, never more than 3 times, yet. is this the fuel shutoff solenoid going bad or does the fuel filter need replacing. or is it something else. if it would be the fuel shutoff solenoid, and it would die, is there a manual way to start the engine. thnax

Sounds like you have a bad fuel hose or overflow valve on the start prob. OF valve is easiest to do and not expensive, replace it. Gives you a spare if that isn't it. Fuel line leak will let the pump lose prime but most times will not leak fuel on the ground. Do a search on hard start for LOTS of info.

DieselTorque,

1] it will be up to you on how hard you hammer it. ;)

But yes it should handle it for a while.

2] Also look at the grid heaters. The fuel heater goes first, check it out. Then check the air intake. :p

3] If that fails, go with a fuel pressure check for leaks in your hoses. :{

Good luck & let us know what happened. :D

when i put my plate in for some reason i killed my start stop solenoid. instead of buying a new solenoid i hooked up a kill switch much cheaper and i will never have the prob again.

If you're going to order new overflow valve, I just ordered one from precision diesel for $35+$7 s+h. The # is 1-888-734-7349. My dealer was $165. Sounds like fuel solenoid problems. If it will hold you can just pull it up for now until you can fix it, thats what I been doing until i get a chance to put a pull cable on it.

thanks for the replys. started it a few times today started on 1 crank everytime, well maybe its telling me time to upgrade did get semi -smoked by my friend's flower power stroke last week. oh yeah the bombing bug has bit. :D

i'll keep ya'll updated.

DieselTorque,

Just a suggestion or 2---- Oo.

#3,000 gov & afc springs, grind your own plate to save money, 4" exhaust, & BHAF with outerwears ought to to the job relieving your BUG BITE :D

We are waiting----

WAYNES WORLD

WAYNES WORLD,

how do i grind my plate, are there any photos/directions on cutting a plate floating around.

i have heard about grinding plates, but what i'm worried about is grinding too much of it and ruining it. how long does it take.

and the afc spring (is that the air fuel control spring?) how do i locate/change it. thanx

DieselTorque,

The first thing to understand is by visual id. :--)

Look at the gallery of Forrest or do a search of plates.

Some people grind by hand held grinders. Others use bench models.

Whichever you use is up to you.

BUT, make sure you polish it down very smooth. I used 600 & 220. The finish was good with a little elbow grease.

I would start with a #4 looking plate[ small indent] then back out in stock condition. Move it all the way up. Depending on mods & test.

If not satisfied, try the ski slope design, # 10 on bottom & #8 on top.

Again test to your liking.

The last plate is the "0" plate or no foot just straight up. This is for serious racers only. It needs the mods.

This will make sense after looking at Forrest's gallery of plates.

Don't worry, they are very easy to do.

If this isn't understandable, shoot me a email & we can talk on the phone.

Good luck,

but you won't need it,

DieselTorque ... ck out:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122032

this little baby was put in a 94 5 speed & he isn't slipping the clutch. Oo. He's got over 215k miles on it too. He's dicking with the star wheel to get rid of off-idle smoke ... no problemo & still big :D . The ski slope WAYNES WORLD is referring to gets rid of that off idle smoke.

The guy that ground that plate has a machine shop & had all the right stuff ... of which i don't really know, but it was a quickie.

Now ... WAYNES WORLD is right on ... with a little qualifier ... this little baby in a 96 thru 98 5 speed 215 pump is major clutch burn temp stuff. :-laf
