"Air Intake heator" Dealer looked at the heator on the intake and it has never been connected. Truck is two weeks old (2100 miles). It was real cold here this morning for the first time since I bought the truck (cold for SO CAL) when the light came on. We cleared the code so We will see if it reoccures. Any ideas?

My light came on tonight after I got off work. Truck sat for about 10 hours and it was 28 degrees when I got off work. Went to autozone and the clown there pulled codes and gave me P2609 and then told me he WOULD NOT and WILL NOT clear codes. The grid heater light came on and went off like usuall and it started right up but the CEL stayed on. I had it plugged in last night and it was fine on my way to work. I am going out to check out connections but am not wanting to because it is COLD!! LOL!! and the truck is way too tall to fit in the garage.

Ha Ha. You think it's cold in New Mexico and So Cal. It's about 8 degrees here right now, (6:20). The little "wait to start" icon appears a lot on my '06. I wouldn't feel right if it didn't. Seriously, there is a a point, above which pre-heating isn't necessary,

but if the light comes on, wait until it goes out before you start the truck. You can read about it in the manual. JH

I only wish I was back home. I am from McCall and miss it bad. I checked all the connections on the grid heater and there is 2 studs on the front side that do not have any thing connected to them. 2 studs on the back side have hot wire to them other than that everything looks normal.

After spending about an hour last night on TDR and also on DC Dealer Connect I found that. Thanks BOB. I have narrowed it down to the body lift. When installing a 3 inch body lift there is a 3 inch spacer for the intake. The gaskets supplied are not the conductive type gasket. I stopped by the dodge dealer this morning and bought the correct gaskets. Will replace them tonight after I get off work. Thanks again and this site is a life saver!!

Thanks guys for grabbing my question/post and running with it! (smile) but I would still like an answer... .

You got answers... ... ..... now you need to do some hands on :)

There are 7 different diagnostic paths that DC wants the tech to go thru for that code. So you can ge 7 different answers. Get me a fax # and I can fax you the flow chart on the diagnostic.

P2609-NO VOLTAGE DROP SEEN FROM INTAKE AIR HEATERS

For a complete wiring diagram Refer to Section 8W.

• When Monitored:

First 15 seconds of engine operation.

• Set Condition:

The ECM does not detect a voltage drop on the intake air heater circuit.

Possible Causes

INTAKE AIR HEATER OPEN

INTAKE AIR HEATER GROUND OPEN

OPEN BATTERY CABLE FROM INTAKE AIR HEATER RELAY

BATTERY CABLE OPEN

#1 INTAKE AIR HEATER RELAY

#2 INTAKE AIR HEATER RELAY

INTERMITTENT CONDITION

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

Diagnostic Test

1. INTAKE AIR HEATER OPEN

________________________________________

Measure the resistance between the intake air heater supply and ground terminal on each intake air heater.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?

Yes

• Go To 2

No

• Replace the open Intake Air Heater.

• Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/ENGINE CONTROL MODULE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

2. INTAKE AIR HEATER GROUND OPEN

________________________________________

Measure the resistance of the intake air heater ground circuit between the intake air heater terminal and the intake manifold cover ground connection.

NOTE: The intake air heater circuit is grounded through a conductive gasket on the top and bottom of the air heater (grey colored gaskets).

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?

Yes

• Go To 3

No

• Repair the open Intake Air heater ground or replace both heater gaskets with the proper conductive gaskets.

• Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/ENGINE CONTROL MODULE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

3. OPEN BATTERY CABLE FROM INTAKE AIR HEATER RELAY

________________________________________

Measure the resistance of the battery cable between the intake air heater and the intake air heater relay for both intake air heaters.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?

Yes

• Go To 4

No

• Repair The open or high resistance battery cable from the intake heater relay to heater.

• Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/ENGINE CONTROL MODULE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

4. BATTERY CABLE OPEN

________________________________________

Measure the resistance of the battery cable between the battery and the intake air heater relay for both relays.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ohms?

Yes

• Go To 5

No

• Replace the battery cable from the battery to the Intake Air Heater Relay.

• Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/ENGINE CONTROL MODULE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

5. #1 INTAKE AIR HEATER RELAY

________________________________________

Disconnect the #1 intake air heater relay signal wire.

Connect a jumper wire from the signal terminal of the #1 intake air heater relay to battery positive.

Did the relay click when 12 volts was applied?

Yes

• Go To 6

No

• Replace #1 Intake Air Heater Relay.

• Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/ENGINE CONTROL MODULE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)

6. #2 INTAKE AIR HEATER RELAY

________________________________________

Disconnect the #2 intake air heater relay signal wire.

Connect a jumper wire from the signal terminal of the #2 intake air heater relay to battery positive.

Did the relay click when 12 volts was applied?

Yes

• Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION Symptom (Diagnostic Procedure).

No

• Replace #2 Intake Air Heater Relay.

• Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1 (DIESEL). (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES/ENGINE CONTROL MODULE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
