I have recently installed a new intercooler built by Joe Hellmann. It is a fully welded aluminum unit and looks really sharp. Besides the good looks it is actully functional. I have not driven my truck hard lately(I am breaking n a new motor and new twins) but normal driving I am seeing a 80degree drop in cruise egt's and I am seeing 5-6 more pounds of boost with both my boxes turned off. That is more efficent than the stocker in my opinion. You can get more info from Joe at www.hellmannperformance.com or contact Nate at

The core of the cooler is 3 inches wider than the stock core, the tubes are bigger and there is more of them. On the new motor, its nothing special, just a brand new motor. My oil pump failed in Kentucky and and the rest of the motor soon after.

Oil pump failure? Did the oil pressure gauge continue to read "customer's expecations" and not the actual low pressure? Just curious since I thought these engines would go into limp mode with low oil pressure.

i remember reading in the manual somewhere that it takes ~20sec before the ding happens and gauge goes to 0 and light comes on. . even at 6psi under load, that will give you some bad rod knock

I think the stock gauge is not to be trusted. The gauge was still running good pressure even after the motor was sounding like metal in a blender. The new intercooler uses all the factory plumbing.

I do have new glasses on order but... it looks like there are only tubes and no fins??

I think I need new contacts too. I dont think I see any fins either.

I have never built an intercooler, so I have no idea if they are needed

Do the 03. 5 HO's need upgraded intercoolers. I have a fair amount done to my truck but I have a stock intercooler

Nah, the 03's and '04's have metal tanks on the side. The '05's have plastic tanks that don't hold up well with any boost increase mod. DC realized this was a bad idea and went back to all metal intercoolers.

Is that on of the intercoolers that come with the fittings built in already? Such as for water meth, nitrous, or cryogenic setups.

Or were you just looking for higher cooling capacity.

I can't imagine one without, the fins are what carries the heat away.

I am not sure about the price of the bd cooler or what it comes with. I would like to do a comparison, does anyone know what the core width on the bd or banks cooler is?For all who cant see the fins,if you look at the picture there are fins between every set tubes, they are really hard to see.

Does it Have INSIDE turbolators,The BD and other"s DO NOT. Inside Turbolators are Extremely hard to Manufacture and install. it is the most critical part of the CAC. . Turbolators are fins that are install (INSIDE) the tubes that are connected to the Ends. the coverage of a turbolator Core is enormous.
