Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Got a small problem with a code

Hey guys I got a small problem I think. I went in to check for codes and it came up with,

P1693 - DTC detected in companion module.

DTC detected in PCM/ECM



My question is what is DTC?

Diagnostic Trouble Code - the 1693 code just means that a trouble code was registered by both the ECM and PCM - not a very informative code. Were there any other codes? If not you may need a scan tool to retrieve or the initial code was only temporary.

Nope that was the only code set. Do you think if I could disconnect the batterys to clear it? Thanks Work2much for the quick reply.

I would just let it go for now. Your truck my reset it self after numerous starts. Maybe like 10 or more. All codes that I have had have reset themselves.

DTCs are stored for 255 "starts"! Light might go out before that but the code is still there.
