Some guy flagged my down today, and needs me to haul him down to Jacksonville or Fort Lauderdale,FL(from Macon,GA). He is a fulltime car hauler, and was pulling his emty two car hauler, when his transmission blew on him. The truck is a '99 F-450 and he told me it weighs about 8500 #s. The trip to Jacksonville is about 270 mi there and 540 total mi. I told him it would cost him $300, and I plan to leave about 12:00 tommorrow(Wed). I figure $50 for fuel and $250 for 8 hrs of driving. I can't miss any college classes so I don't think I am going to go all the way to Lauderdale(550mi/8hrs). What do yall think? Got any advise?

Thanks

Rick

FWIW

$1. 50 - $2. 00 per mile is what hotshots charge. And you're covering his butt. I'd guess that he's getting a good deal. But if you're happy, have fun.

A friend was charged a $800. 00 fine for commercial towing without ICC Authority... ..... might not be a good deal if caught..... I would avoid the truck scales... ... especially the one on 95 south just across the Fl. line. The rules change when you start crossing state lines. Just my $. 02 worth.

I've been gettin $1. 00 or so per mile $3. 00 per mile on shorter cross towns with a minimum. I've only moved 5er's and a couple of TT's so Cant offer help about the scale thing. Just keep your eyes on the road and lay low!:D
