:D No guys, I haven't gone to the dark side. I'm in the Air Force and today we got a new F-350 CC 4X4 auto LB 6. 0 PS to replace our 1981 Chevy 4X4 CC (on it's deathbed).

My troops and I took her for a test run on the highway. I thought I was going to get a ticket right off the bat: As I was just hitting 75 (and climbing) a state trooper comes down the road. He puts on brake lights then presses on. Whew! I kept her at 71. good thing, 3 more troopers came about half a mile apart.

Anyway, the 6. 0 is weak on the bottom end (up to around 2000 rpm), but catches up with itself after about 2500 rpm. The auto transmission was sweet, smooth and the strongest selling point on the truck. You mash down on the accelerator and the transmission donwshifts, allowing good accleration. The ride was real smooth. The steering was a little sloppy.

Overall, our Dodges are better, if we could just have Ford's transmission.

Happy trails, Wiredawg

I wouldnt hesitate to get a Ford if they get the 6. 0 as good as the 7. 3 was I would concider it

And thank you for your service to our great country:)

Thanks!

DG Foster:

Thanks! I've been in the Air Force for 28 years and it's makes us feel great to hear we're appreciated. I have to say we sure do a lot with a little.

EBottema:

:D Don't be so tough on the government and Ford. Remember, the government bailed Chrysler out in the 80s when they were about to go under.

Y'all take care,

We got some friend in the Air Force,he is in ALASKA with his family, but they love it there,he transfered up ther about a year ago.

Enjoy that Ford they are very good trucks.

Also, thanks for the service you are doing for our country.

My gripe is with Ford, they make horrible product. The only somewhat quality they have is in the mustang, crown vic, and some of their trucks. Rest of their cars and SUV's are horrible excuses for motor vehicles. They use people as guina pigs just like in 03 with the 6. 0 diesel. I still wouldnt buy one today. I mean look at the 7. 3 granted its a good engine and all, but from what i remember in 1995 it was a 215 hp engine... cummins in 1996 was a 215 hp engine too. But the sad part is ford had about 1. 5 liters on the cummins and had the same hp rating... . Ford sells an f-150 with a nice clunk in it and doesnt care to fix it, says its normal? Anyways, dodge is not perfect either. however, excuse the bad grammer... they are just more better :D Rather see the government spend its money on quality diesel trucks than 6. 0 junk

You guys think you have it bad in the Air Force, here in the Coast Guard we needed more vehicles for our port security teams and we had to get them from DRMO, which is where all the old Air Force rigs go when they are done with them.

I imagine we'll be seeing your 81 Chevy come through the gate at any moment. :{

Ford SFA steering is atrocious. One thing that would get on my nerves is driving down the highway constantly correcting.

Wiredawg,

I sometimes feel a little left out when reading some of the patriotic remarks in these threads, so FWIW I also thank you and your fellow men (and women) in the US armed forces for the work you do. Despite what you may hear or read, there are those of us in the rest of the world that support you as well.

PS. Keep us updated with how that Ford works for you.

Cheers

Dave

Thnaks Guys!

CoastyAV8R:

The '81 had her transmission rebuilt 3 times in the past 8 months. I guess it was a low bid transmission shop. We feel pretty special getting the new truck; we usually get worn out fire dept and security forces trucks. Go Coast Guard!

DPelletier: Thanks. We all appreciate the great support folks like you give. We're all proud to serve to keep this world safe.

Hey-

Well im sure you never had to do one of those $700 average brake jobs on the explorer, or exploder  ;) That vehicle shows the true colors of Ford. How did that transmission fare? Anyways, there is always problem free cars that they put out but too many have problems...
