Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) got another Cummins, woo-hoo! have EGT and BHAF ?'s

Finally got a cherry of a truck, its a 99 3500 QC 5-spd, w/102K. It has front draw-tite hitch, some slide-in camper tie down brackets that attach to the frame (which I dont need and will be selling) US Gear boost and EGT gauges, air bags, 6 new Firestones as far as I can tell it must have only been used to carry the slide in camper around the bed has no scratches in the Rhino-liner and no dents. Anyway my questions are what are some of the part#'s for a BHAF, and the pyro is post turbo what temps are normal and max? I had a BHAF on my previous 99 and a EGT gauge that was pre turbo, been 5 or 6 years ago and cant remember the part #'s for the filter. Thanks

normal EGTs for a stock truck are around 600-700* running 1900rpm

average 2-300 lower post-turbo EGTs. dont forget to address lift pump and KDP! Also check for "53".

"53"?, wuz dat? I havent had a CTD for about 5 years now (divorce) so I'm kinda out of the loop. So around 3-400 would normal for say highway (1900-2100rpm) driving post turbo? And what would be max safe EGT's if I would to get a programmer? Thanks.

The post turbo temp should never get above 950 to 1000.

For me post turbo running about 18-1900 rpm's on the highway is around 400-500*. I have never seen mine get above 900. The "53" or Dreaded "53" is the block you may possibly have. There were a number of blocks that were cast improperly, they have thin block walls. The block can crack which usually appears on the passenger side around the #3 and #4 cylinder just below the exhaust manifold if I remember correctly. You can find the number on the driver side of engine behind the vacuum pump just above the oil pan.

As far as a programmer the biggest thing as of late is the SMARTY. The SMARTY allows your factory ECM to have up to 10 power settings, alot of members have one and really like it.
