wrestling with modern diesels

Lined up at a stoplight on my way to work about 5:30am. . next to a V10 Furd auto. . he starting inching up to the crosswalk. . light turned green, tried quickshifting the 6 speed(PITA)... I only pulled on him in 2 nd, 3rd I was at his door, 4th I was at his tail lights, 5 th(55mph) I let off(a curve in the road and a tunnel under the LB airport runway.

I NEED SMOKE!

:D

Better watch those V-10's! ;) (We had a Dodge V-10/automatic 3500 before this truck - I wouldn't want to drag it from a standing start, although I think the Cummins could take it from a roll-on at 40 MPH or so, at least until I defueled in 6th gear with these blasted 4. 10's!) :D

My wife's V10 Dodge will holeshot me by a full truck-length or better. At 40 I blow by her like she's standing still. She also has a LSD and I don't, so I can't powerbrake like she can. Otherwise my right rear BFG turns to jello...

I don't know what the story is on her auto transmission. It was used when she bought it. I had to go get DTT upgrades to get mine to shift decent. Hers has always been solid.

That V10 is cool off the line. Above 40 I'll take diesel, thanks!

I blame it on the 3. 73 gears they prolly have plus the auto transmission. When racing from a stop the 6spd ain't much good. But when we get loaded and start up the hills or have a headwind it is a different story altogether.

My carpool buddy has a 1999 SuperDuty V-10 and an auto transmission. I have never raced him from a standing start, but I can very easily waste him going up hills, or just going down the road. Of course I now have more than twice his horsepower, and soooooo much more torque :D

Now that the V10 stories are coming out, I was coming from NM last fall and passed a Dodge V10 pulling a slightly smaller 5th wh than mine but his was 4wd so I think our GVWs were almost identical. We did some friendly and safe messing around with each other for 100 miles. I could get him a little on hills, but barely! There must be a good chip for V10s! I usually lose V10s in a hurry - maybe most of those guys don't try very hard or want to spend their paychecks on gas. So I got home and ordred the Piers 3K kit and turbo:D Craig

I was going to say stop light to stop light was different from pulling 20,000 lbs up a hill untill I read further. Look at my truck link ,there is absolutaly no way I could take the firebird light to light but hook up 10,000lbs to each hitch and we will see who goes crying to mommy... ... ... ..... can you see the light now;)
