My brother-in-law is a tdr member but doesn't have a computer, so i'll ask for him. He just put in a fuel pressure gauge in his '99 24 valve and is concerned with the # he reads. when cold, it runs 3 to4. After about 30 seconds It goes to 5#. After fully warmed, It runs at 7 to 7. 5 He's worried about the cold readings, should he drive it or not. Driving it would make it warm up faster, but the #,s are low than. What to do? Is this a normal range of pressure readings?

I have a 12v so I don,t know.

Thanks

Tim

If those are idle #'s, it is definitely low. In fact, I think most get a little nervous at anything below around 7-8 psi under load. Ideally, you would probably want to see something above 12 psi at idle, around 10 psi or so at highway speeds, and no less than around 8 psi at WOT.

I would get a new lift pump or any of the aftermarket fixes on it ASAP.

I just installed a Westach a couple of months ago & have been getting 14-15 psi at Idle & 11-12 WOT consistenly ever since.

I agree that these numbers look low and a replacement lift pump would be in order.

NOTE however, if the FP guage is electrical (i. e. , westach) and the grid heaters are cycling, the pressure value on the guage will read low because the power draw of the grid heaters.

You might also want to check (calibrate) an electric gauge with direct read guage (brair hopper's) connected to one of the other test ports.

With my new lift pump I maintain right at 14 psi at idle and 12-13 psi at WOT. The old lift pump put out 12 psi at idle and down to 7-8 psi WOT. When the pump finally started to go it showed 6psi at idle and some times 0 psi while driving. This all happened in about 500 miles. You definantly indicate a bad lift pump and would not delay replacing. It is not worth the additional cost of further damage to the injection pump.
