AZcummins, I added links above. :)

If there is any demand I could put together a kit including stainless tubing for heat isolation from e-brake, fittings, hose, wire. And stuff:D

Here is what I'll be doing. { Console Post from 1/23/02 }

DMKelly just sent me templates for his console. I'll be modifying it for gauges, switches and mounts for a CB and a Scanner. We'll see how it goes.

I was going to go with a dash pod but was concerned with the possibility of glare reflecting back at night. I like my gauges bright so we'll see how this works. :p

So how are your wires routed now? If I go the dash pod route, can I just pop off the front fascia of the dash and get to my wires easy. (seems like there is space to route/see in there last time I had it off).

I've seen a couple of the dash pods installed... They ran the wires down in between the window and the dash and used a plastic scraper tool to push the wires in. When they got over to the "A" pillar, they went down to behind the dash. No holes were drilled in the dash for this installation... ;)

Hey Keith, I also use the ashtray for a guage...

My Westach fuel pressure gauge fits quite nicely in there with a donut mount!:D

If this helps, there is room in the srs air bag cover at center base of dash on my '94. I had to trim sheet metal on top of unit where the plastic cover snaps in, but it worked out ok. It is a bit low and have been thinking of adding rings behind gauge face to tip them up a little. I am pretty sure Autometer sells them. I placed digital thermometer down there and will put fuel pressure gauge there soon. Did not want to look at gauges on top of dash.

Just an alternative for you to consider before you drill and blast.

Good luck. :) :)

There is room in that SRS cover? I figured there would have been a lot of expensive electronics behind there. Hmm... that might be an idea.

I didn't like the idea of the column pod b/c $50 is too much to pay for a piece of plastic that only mounts 1 gauge. They cool though!

Yes there is a fair amount of room behind the upper part of the cover. Unhooked batterys before trimming the cheesy tin mount so I wouldn't have to 'splain to the wife why I needed a new air bag when the vibration set the thing off. I don't know if the newer trucks have the same set-up or not. Have not studied the newer interiors enough to know. I took my time centering up for the new holes and if you go top left and top right on the plastic cover, it seems to work out. 2" hole saw makes perfect hole as it will take a little extra out of the plastic. Hope this helps. ;)

Guess I was dreaming of my 12V again b/c my 98 doesn't have a box down there, the transmission shifter housing goes all the way up to the dash.

Gauge Gizmo on Right Side?

Probably a stupid question, but has anyone tried to put a gauge gizmo on the right side pillar? I was trying to visualize the contours, but I suspect the angles would end up being different.

thanks for all your ideas guys and gals!

On my 97', if you take the screws out along the front of the dash, the entire dash will "roll" back away from the windshield. That is with a lot of the hardware removed below the dash of course. Not sure about other years.

This gives you a fair amount of access. I maybe would not have done this but as I said, I notched the front edge of the dash to route my wires. If I had drilled a large enough hole directly below the pod, I could have fished the wires.

JBlock has a good idea with drilling a hole size that you could easily plug if you wanted too. Me, for the most part when I sell a vehicle, I don't take much off just sell as is so hole size is not an issue.

The pod is held in with one of the long dash screws. Once secured then you push the center guage into place. If the wires can't slide you would have to curl them in a very limited space. The large hole will allow for the required movement.
