Flew into Las Vegas yesterday, Lilly picked me up at the airport and was on the road before noon, Truck: 2004. 5 2500 SLT, 600CTD, 6SPD, 3. 73, Premium Seats, Fold Flat Floor, Trailer Tow PKG, Anti Spin Axle, Power Mirrors, Fog Lamps, Brite White/Taupe, Full Tank of Fuel = $29,575. 00 after rebate-on the street.

523 miles home, first 100 miles @1900 rpm's, the rest of the way at 70 MPH @2200 RPMS, MT 18. 5 MPG average (hand calculated),

Initial obsevations are = pretty tame on launch, but when turbo kicks in... Whoahhh Nellie!!!, lots of wind noise at 70, gotta check that. , takes a long time to top off fuel, lots of foaming (air?), what the heck am I goin to do with first and second gear?? it seems to launch pretty good on level ground in third gear...

noticed increasing rear end whine after 200 miles, very noticable cruising at 70 mph, may be harmonics?? dissappears under acceleration or de-celeration pressure. :)

I sure like the sound of your average MPG. I don't have mine yet, it's still on the train. Alot of guys are worried about their mileage and reporting horrible MPG figures. Hope mine does as well as yours. :-laf

WMcGuire, what is the build date of your truck? I have a feeling that those build in/after March are more likely to get the better MPG (latest flashes), just wondering if your build date lines up with that.

Jeepdude, the date on the door sticker says 1/04, the expriences I've had before is that the more they fix something the worse it gets, if I only got 12-14 mpg on the maiden voyage then I suspect you might right, California has a bad habit of sneaking in changes without telling anyone so I would be leery of getting a new flash unless something was wrong.

Congrats, According to Insight, they unloaded mine off the train today, woo hoo!! So as long as my dealer can get it from the train yard, I will finally be in business. Ordered 12/30/03, so much for the 6-8 weeks.

Good luck

Gary

Did you check the fluid levels? They always seem to be low from the factory and most dealers don't even check them during the prep.

I specifically asked the dealer to check mine before I picked it up. They didn't do it! I check myself the next day, the front was 1 pint low and the real was 2 pints low!

You might want to check them!

isnt 2200 rpm's a bit high for 70 mph with 3:73's?

we have an auto and it's 1850rpm's why is the stick so high? were you driving home in 4'th?:D ... . james

Picked mine up yesterday as well. 3500 SRW 4x4 SLT 6 spd 600 Black Sport. What a nice truck. Did find out one thing though to pass along. When the low fuel light goes on, I have only about 3, maybe 3. 5 gals. left in the tank. On my 01, I had 7 to 8 gals. left in reserve. Owners manual says about 8% left in tank when light comes on. 8% x 35 gals. = 2. 8, so guage is pretty accurate. So far (124 mi. ) mine is perfect. No vibration, no whine, everything fits well. She goes in this a. m. for 315's.

Tobbacogrower, you have a good point! I am on the fence right now over weather to go with a 6spd or the the 48re. With an RPM range that high at only 70mph I think I'll stick with the 48re. I don't think it is hard on the motor, just annoying to hear and feel for long drives. Does anyone have the given RPM ranges for speeds with the 3. 73 rear for both trannies? I am still learning my way around in here, so if it is in an obvious place I apologize.

Ok, now I see a new thread started on this subj. exactly! Guess i am just not reading enough!

Thanks

Eric

Pleeeze Officer, I know the speed limit is only 70, Ok, ok you got me!! I admit it, I was going closer to 80, the sky was blue the sun was shining and the desert wildflowers were so pretty along the road I couldnt wait to see them all... .

According to klenger's gear speed calculator, the 6-speed with 3. 73 ratio should run about 2025 RPM at 70 MPH. The auto should run about 1925 at 70 MPG. This is with the standard 265/70R17 tires.

If he is running 2200 RPM at 70 MPG, then he probably has the 4. 10 gear ratio.
