My Honda 2000 arrived today from Alamia - and it comes with a new (at least to me!) designation:

Honda 2000IA

Dunno WHAT the "A" signifies after the "I" - hopefully it's something improved over the previous models? I don't see anything different jumping out at me on the spec sheet as compared to previous 2000's...

It's right on a sticker attached to the generator itself - no reference to the change in the owners manual I could see in a quick scan-thru...

I first noticed there was a change when the Alamia invoice noted the Honda 2000I I had ordered was "superceded" by what had been shipped to me...

Like I said, I hope it's a GOOD change, and not just a way to make them cheaper - but then, I've always been a worrier! :-laf :-laf

Well, here's what a Google search yielded:

Lighweight and compact, Honda's EU2000IA is powered by an air-cooled 4-stroke engine. Its heavy metal casting has been replaced by a lightweight plastic so it weighs only 28. 6 lbs. It's ideal for home and professional equipment including computers... .

Casting? Gee, sounds like ya got ya a plastic engine, Gary!!! ;) :D :-laf

OK, I'm sure they meant to say casing. Didn't they???? Ummmm..... :rolleyes: :{

The specs link takes you to the Honda website, which still has the old data. Given that it's a Honda, and probably pretty well made, I think I would really like the weight reduction. I wonder if they are doing the same thing to the EU3000?

Well, the outer case IS plastic - were the older ones metal?

It's out in the garage as this is written, running a 500 watt quartz light - seems decently quiet. Guess I'll hafta break out my decible meter and check noise level...

Now, a plastic ENGINE *would* be cause for alarm!

But you can bet, any change in case material was $$$ driven, rather than for any actual consumer benefit!

I'll put it on the scale, and check actual weight...

More later.

I purchased my Honda 2000 new in the year 2002 and it has the 2000iA designation on it. It also has the plastic outer case. IMHO you don't have anything different than what Honda has been putting out over the past few years.

WOW,Gary, correct me if i'm wrong, new exhaust, injectors, now the icing on the cake,i bought one for elk hunting last fall(got tired of freezing my butt off with dead batteries in the travel trailer, you will LOVE IT. Let us know how the new bombs for the truck are.

"WOW,Gary, correct me if i'm wrong, new exhaust, injectors, now the icing on the cake"

US retired folks gotta pull our weight, and maintain this country's cash flow! :-laf :-laf

We're looking forward to more RV travel since getting away from our labor intensive California home. The Honda EX1000 did OK for us, but really struggled with our microwave and toaster - this new box should handle it all very nicely, and the truck upgrades will get us up to the campgrounds in record time! :D

Good luck,my 2000eu handled the micro with ease and ran for about 10-12 hours on a single fill with a light to moderate load at 3500ft,i will finally get my truck back early next week with the new mods,b1b-2 tow, pacbrake, turboguard. airdog and catcher to top it off from Bob. :-laf

You have much the same truck setup I'll have, other than the difference between the CATCHER and my Comp - hope I get as much :D :D out of my upgrades as others have...

Wonder if you have, or plan to dyno your setup - I'm hoping to be at 400 HP with mine...

(wonder what the penalty is for stealing your own thread?) :-laf

Maybe we think alike with mods and style of truck. I have a comp, tried it liked it but wanted to try something different, most of the time my comp never went passed 2x3,will see how the catcher works with the rest of the mods. Once i get my truck back i'll see how the 1. 5s are towing, then maybe ,if possible go bigger(2. 5s). My goal is 400 too, with B1,towable injectors and no wire tap,if not i think i can settle for 350,who knows,it a slippery slope. I might drive out to Piers next dyno day to see what it puts out. PS- penalty is ----no TDR for one day, that oughta HURT

Like Rusty, I'm very curious as to the above statement from his pointer - that word "replaced" in the above quote indicates that some significant component that was originally metal, is now plastic. What I can see of the engine portion is aluminum, and I assume the outer case has always been plastic, so what else of significance IS there, the alternator case/casting perhaps?

Of course, I don't have another 2000 to compare with - and by the way, mine tipped the scale at 47. 5 lbs full of oil and a couple of quarts of gas...

(EDIT)

I think I've figured out the mystery!

The pointer, and description both Rusty and I posted above, appears to just be a misprint, and descriptive info intended for the EU1000i has been inserted into what is supposed to be the 2000i - the dry weight for a 1000i *IS* 28. 6 lbs... :D

I went and picked up a new EU 2000 yesterday myself. Seems to run as good as all the other Honda's I own. Mine just says EU 2000i on the tag.

The "A" designation on mine is a stick-on tag attached to the removable panel where oil is added - the "A" designation is also on the site info Rusty pointed to up above and on the Honda website for the 2000 too as I recall.

But yeah, ALL the Honda stuff seems to run VERY well indeed!

Hey, Blair, why don't you and Gary meet halfway and put your generators side by side. THEN maybe we can figure out what the "A" signifies!
