Well, I got my Killer Dowel Pin fixed and its not to worry about no more. :D The only thing that was hard was removing the fand and shroud. I just unbolted the shroud first, then ubolted that fan bracket instead of breaking the big nut loose on the clutch. It was a PITA to get out by myself and I wished I had help to lift the whole thing out since that fan assembly is pretty heavy in that akward position.

Another thing was when I went to break the damper loose, it turned about 1/8th of a turn and then the bolts came loose. I was stumped on this since I have the NV4500 and it was in gear??:confused: It also turned a bit more when I went to torque it down to 92 ft. -lbs. Is that the correct torque for those who know??

And one last thing was that when I went to punch the dowel pin back in, it didn't move. Yeah, I was very surprised to see it sticking out about 1/8" when I got the cover off. It was really cold out and the engine was cold, so I heated it up by holding a hair dryer to for for about 30 minutes and tried again and I was only able to get it back in the hole about 1/16" from the top of it to the top of the hole. I was satified with that depth, installed the TST tab and sealed up the cover. But I was just confused as to why it was so hard to punch back in the hole. All the direction givers out there make it sound like it will just slip right back into place with a few taps, I had to hit it a bunch of times with two different size punches. :confused:

But it is fixed now and I slept much better knowing that last night. :D
 
Cool, thanks for the verification on that torque setting. But I am still in confusion about my other questions about the crank turning and the dowel pin not punching back in so easy. Anyone have any suggestions or answers to these quesitons???
 
OK, the damper turned because of gear lash. There is a certain amount of "play" in the gears and when you loosened the damper you were turning the engine opposite its normal rotation. Once the play was removed, the bolts could be removed. It is normal and I would not be concerned. A barring tool which installs in the transmission and fits the ring gear will lock the engine and keep it from turning.

I've done a few KDP tabbs and what you experienced is normal. Some DP will go below flush and others will not.
 
Thanks, man that makes me feel better about the whole deal. Boy, it sure is nice to know that the KDP is killed and no more. :D
