Gas Dryer to Electric?

A PSD impressed me

Well Pacific Gouge and Extorsion sent me a bill yesterday. Guess what, natural gas was? $1. 39 to $1. 79 per therm! When I bought this house 6 years ago it was $. 19 a therm. I haven't run my A/C or heater one time in the last month and my bill was a little over $100. Thank God I have a wood burning fireplace. Freakin *******s.

Being that I live in California. . (40miles from CFast)... the air folks can get a little ugly here in the valley!

If I lived somewhere else. . that would be another story...

Mine was over $200 first time since I moved here 14 years ago. Electric company added a $46 fuel adjustment charge - before taxes.

What really chapped my jaws - about 3 months ago - they bought a bankrupt natural gas fired generating facilty. They quoted all the reasons why you wouldn't want to generate electricity with natural gas - mainly the high price for fuel. Then they raise our rates to pay the $billion they paid for the boondoggle. The excuse they used for raising the rates was the cost of steel to replace the rails for the train that brings in coal from Wyoming for some of their coal fired plants.

They have us over a barrel and will certainly make sure we pay!

CFast,

I understand how you feel but PG&E (who I work for) does not have anything to do with the rising cost of Natural Gas. All PG&E gets is the cost to transport the gas through its pipeline which is set by the CPUC and hasn't changed. Blame the Hurricane, rising demand etc. for the price hike. I too use natural gas and have a wood stove so it will see more use this winter. By the way, a cord of oak is over $300 because of the increased demand for it... .

I'm not blaming pg&e entirely. I understand there are a lot a factors why gas is so high this year. But they are the ones that deliver the natural gas in my area. And I have no love for them. I'm not saying all the employee's are crooks, just the ones at the top. Hopefully in a few years I'll have my new house built and powered soley by solar, wood, and maybe propane. PG&E can forget about me. From $. 19 to $1. 80 per therm in 6 years is B. S. .

I had a gas heater in my garage, the only gas at my all electric home. I'd use maybe 10 bucks a month and the gas company added something like 45 bucks on top of that for some boondoggle fee. I had it shut off and all of this was last year, It's going up 90% this year. Wood stove is going back in service this year.

Although the price for home heating with gas has doubled, the royalty owners are still getting paid about 1/2 of the current spot market price! Lots of companies have long term contracts with sister companies! Goes from one pocket to the other!

Blaming the company (PG&E) that delivers the natural gas at a preset delivery fee per therm is like blaming the trucking company for the price of diesel, gas, kerosene etc. which has more than doubled on all of us. I'm not trying to make excuses but propane has gone up also, so has firewood if you have to buy it. I'm not happy about it either. Hopefully your new house will be energy efficient and will cost less to operate. Doesn't Fresno have certain days when you can't use a wood burning stove due to the already heavy smog in that area?

Best way to lower the bill is wear some warm cloths or get a wood burning stove. Wood is 10 times cheaper expecially if you spend a saturday going and collecting it, plenty for a winter.
