I have a front locker in my trail rig with 38. 5x16" tires. I'm very familiar with what hydro assist is for. I have a 2" x 8" ram on my steering with mounts I made myself.



That said, not only can I see no need for hydro assist steering here with 33" tires and an open diff, I see no want as well. Hydro assist steering, like any hydraulic steering setup, feels like crap. Mine is slow but powerful, I wanted it that way for rock crawling. A smaller ram would make it faster, but it's still going to feel the same..... no road feel with hydraulic steering. When I had 35s I could turn the wheel with one finger, and if I still had them I wouldn't have hydro assist steering.



I just can't imagine why the stock power assist is insufficient for street driving.



I will make a suggestion to you though. Make sure you use a power steering cooler. Without one your power steering box is going to get VERY hot, especially on the road.

Yes, Jack your truck up on the left side so that you have a 20% tilt to the right. Get in, start the motor and try and turn the wheel to the right to full lock.

What does that have to do with anything? Your truck can be laying on its side, it's still got 33s on it. You're going to be disappointed, I think. You have no need, nor want, for hydraulic steering of any kind.

I guess this is the only thing I have left to change out in the front end in hopes of it steering half way decent. I have Lukes Links on the tie rods and drag link, DSS, new ball joints, and the 3rd gen TB conversion and it still steers like a total slob. Makes me wonder if i shouldn't have started with the steering box to begin with.
