I installed my new 9004 headlights from J. C. Whitney today... THEY ARE AWESOME!!

I was worried they wouldn't light up the road like I wanted, but I can see so much more and the bright white light they give off really adds to the ride.

Spend the $30 and order #81ZX7297X.

P. S. When you take out the old bulbs, the truck manual says you have to twist the bulb 1/4 turn... you don't, just yank it out!!!

Question, are these really white or do they have a blue tint to them? I bought some overwattage bulbs last year and find they have a blue tint that really bites the big one.

I'm concerned about the blue tint issue also. I was looking at the PIAA high output bulbs. They are a little pricy ($80/pair I think), but I have always been extreamly impressed with PIAA products.

What brand are the JC Whitney Bulbs, and what is the wattage?

What are some thoughts about the high-output bulbs getting too hot for the housing?

Hey guys as a fellow cop, you might want to check your local law on these type of bulbs. I know for a fact they are illegal in MD as I have written a ton of citations for these bulbs. If the vehicle comes from the factory with them then that is a different story. Most cops should have a list of what vehicles have these when manufactored. Just a thought!

These bulbs were listed as "Xenon Plasma" bulbs.

I too was worried about the law and them, but they aren't blinding as I've stood in front of my truck and stared into them. Also, people haven't been brighting me about them.

BTW... the lights don't look much different when viewed from the outside. However, when you are the driver, the difference is clear. I don't think a cop would think of them as non-stock.

Yesterday I pulled my 9004 Whitney bulbs out, they were the Diamond Blue 80/100 watt... Way punkey, not as brite as my original bulbs. . just whiter with a tint of blue. . sent them back in exchange for the "Xenon" 80/100 watt, we'll see if they are any better... One thing I did do was tie in my High beams with my low beams, that was a big improvement... cost me 40 cents... Thanks to Articat Also put in 50 watt Halogen backups... Nice !

I was thinking more about the possible heat issue.

I was seaching around the CATZ light website and somewhere they stated not to sit still will the lights on or they will get too hot. So seeing how nobody has ever told me not to sit still with the factory bulb on I'll assume they don't overheat. If we are to but a bigger, hotter bulb in the truck I would think that as long as we don't have them on too long without the truck in motion, all thiings would be good.

At least is sound good logically.

Cooker,

I had the PIAA Superwhites. Save your money.
Then to add insult to injury, one blew out when I whacked a deer.

Guys-
These bulbs have a slight blue tint to them, but they aren't like the "Blue" lights that really blow. These bulbs look like the lights on the BMW's that aren't the Xenons, but are different that normal headlights. If you are worried about the "blue" factor, these aren't those type of lights.

As far as the lights getting too hot, I drive with my lights on all the time and I haven't had a problem yet. My argument also is that these bulbs will get as hot as they are going to get very quickly so if you didn't melt the housing in 10 min, then it isn't going to happen.

Xenon bulbs are significantly better than the halogens that come in the truck. They are less than $7 each.

I installed HID low beams. Nothing better! Evan, what's keeping you?

James, the package has been sent, and I will have everything I need in a week or two. Can't wait to get them in, been waiting almost 3 years to do it! Always wanted to do it on my '98. 5, but the cost always scared me off. Looks like a reality now! #ad

Fog lights are next.

I installed a Brite Box about a week ago now my right hi-low is burned out. Was the Brite Box the culprit? Anybody else have this problem? Maybe nows the time for better headlights? Whats the best out there? Thanks

Here is a stupid question, (not rhetorical): Why arrest someone for wanting to see better if the wattage or candle power is legal? And why would it be legal on some vehicles and not others?

Seems to me there are better things (or rather "less safe" things) to worry about than headlamp intensity, assuming the low beam meets reasonable levels.

Cooker, I have the PIAA Super White bulbs (9007s and 9004s) in my Ram with the "special" Brite-Box to allow adaptation of the '99 + Sport headlights in my '98. 5 Sport. This combination works very well, producing quite a bit of bright, white light.

groundpounder, you may appreciate that the PIAA Super White bulbs are DOT (50 state) legal.

I went for a ride in jcbrown's, H. I. D. equipped Ram at the last NW BOMBer get together, talk about awesome light! Very bright and very white! #ad

If you want the best (price regardless) this is it!
