New truck question

I picked up my new trailer Tues in Elko (Minneapolis) MN... ... . Featherlite model 4941 Gooseneck 40' overall..... Couple more pics in Readers Rigs

Glade to hear about the new trailer, I hope you continue to like it. Quick couple questions tho.

1. 40' with two axles, what capacity are they? wheel size?

2. Any pictures of the inside?

3. How much clearance between the bed rails and bottom of trailers overhang?

nice looking trailer Lawdog... Am wondering though why you didn't opt for a triple axle under it? I'm sure you already considered axle load and will be okay?

Hey good looking rig. Did you have the extenda ball in? Looks pretty close to your cab from the pictures. Does the neck taper at all? Are you able to make a very sharp turn?

The trailer has a 6' tapered nose on it, and yes I did put in the extenda-ball from B&W. I can turn 90 on level ground no problem.

The axles are 7000# capacity with 16" load "E" tires. Trailer has a 14,000 GVWR and according to featherlite is about #5200 empty. Curently the interior is just wall studs and exterior skin. All Aluminum with Diamond Plate floor. The trailer is one of Featherlites "Standard" models, the 4941. It comes this size(32' floor - 40' overal) with tandems. have to go to a (36' floor-44" overall) to get triple axles. The trailer wa sin-stock at the dealer so i got what they had due to the price they offered.

Bed rail clearance is about a foot, I forgot to measure, but there is alot. I am going to stick with the stock tires for now though. Just sold the 315's last night

My kids race SnoCross, so it is for the racing, 2 or 3 snowmobiles, but will also be building a lounge area in it as well. It will be all open though, not devided between lounge and garage space... I have a lot of work to do to get iut ready, and come up with a new graphic design as well... . This was our old trailer. .

Lawdog:

Since you use your trailer in the winter on snow and salty roads, what if any measures do you take to protect it from rust?

I use a Pace all year, and after 2 winters in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, there is no paint on the frame, just a rusty mess.

thanks

Lawdog,

Was it your son that had the snowmobile stolen a couple years ago? I remember reading about something like that in Ann Arbor quite a while back. Looks like a similar trailer I saw in the picture.

Your new one looks sharp. I drove up near St. Cloud a few weeks back to pick up my 37' gooseneck as well. Makes for a long drive in a weekend...

BStoeker,

No it was not me that had a sled stolen. It was a long ride, but made a stop to see friends in Thief River falls while we were out that way from Detroit, so it was a nice 4 day, 2200 mile ride

RDHamill,

I was concerned with rust which is why I bought the Featherlite as it is all aluminum. Paid alot more than a comparable steel trailer, but no rust like a steel one. The trailer has steel for the hitch and the axles have a steel subframe mounted into the aluminum trailer frame. Small area's to take care of when they start to rust.

As for your rust problem, check out POR 15, VERY good stuff for rusty metal... .
