Bonehead move of the season so far. 2017 ram 2500 4x4. This truck is my baby and not my daily driver. Since it is the end of the snow season, I typically rinse the undercarriage with "salt away", then I take my powerwasher with 4 nozzle undercarriage broom to wash away dirt and crap from the winter. Then, after it all dries, I usually undercoat the truck with fluid film.
Yesterday, everything was going according to plan. Brought the powerwasher out for the first time, hooked everything up, purged the air quickly, and went to begin rinsing...starting with the front of the truck of course!
It didn't dawn on me until it was too late that I used the oil based pump saver in a can this year (normally I use more of an antifreeze type product). What clued me in was the cloudy grey substance that landed on my front bumper (white truck) as I was pushing the water broom under the engine bay. Cant be 100% certain whether the residual oil contacted the belt or not, (the belt seemed dry when I ran my finger on it) but I cleared out the line and finished powerwashing the undercarriage.
When I went to start the truck up, it started fine, and then 20 seconds later, I heard a squeal, that I was expected to last a couple seconds, and then go away (cause that's what normally happens when I wash the engine and belt gets wet), but instead this squeal got louder and louder. I quickly shut the truck off. When I restarted the truck, the belt was silent and remained silent for a 20 min ride.
Question is, did I ruin my belt? Should I replace it? Should I try to clean it off while still installed using an engine cleaner foam? This truck has 9k miles on it, so I obviously don't use it often but when I do, I need it to be diehard reliable. I suppose it is possible that the squeal was from belt and pulleys simply being wet, but unfortunately, I believe it is also possible that the water/oil mixture contacted the belt.
Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. I'm so pissed at myself right now. Trying to do the right thing and take care of my stuff and I end up shooting myself in the d*ck
